He was in the fucking zone during the Eminem Show/8 Mile era.

That's when he started producing more of his own stuff and it created a signature sound you couldn't get from any other artist. He dropped the shock value shit and was crafting real shit like SFTM, TIC, Lose Yourself.

He managed to get quite a few rap legends on the 8 Mile soundtrack, the movie itself did well financially and critically.

Shortly after him and Dre were responsible for the commercial explosion of 50 Cent.

He dismantled a record label and an entire magazine because of his diss tracks.

Dude was fucking untouchable in that era.

So the songs on MMLP and SSLP weren't considered "real shit"?

Wouldn't necessarily say "dismantled" considering The Source is still a live and well.

It really isn't even close to that. Nobody gives a flying fuck about the Source anymore.

Need evidence to prove nobody gives a flying fuck about the Source anymore.

It's a rap magazine. Fuck, that doesn't even matter. IT'S A MAGAZINE. Surprised they haven't gone bankrupt yet. Nobody reads that shit anymore, and if they do, it's XXL or Vibe.

Compared to Eminem Show stuff? Not really. Yeah MMLP had Stan, The Way I Am, Marshall Mathers, and SSLP had Rock Bottom. But Say Goodbye Hollywood, Cleaning Out My Closet, Till I Collapse, Sing For The Moment, Lose Yourself were just a more mature side of Eminem. At least in my opinion.

Benzino left shortly after the beef, they filed for bankruptcy in 07 after sales dropped 50% since 2002. They may be under new management now, but they're not what they once were. And the Eminem beef was a large part of that.

I'm actually going to say post 8 mile and TES. I think that was the start of his peak. For a while it seemed like he couldn't drop a bad verse. Through the Benzino/Murder Inc beef, GRODT, Cheers, even D12 World. If you go through his catalogue around that time some of the tracks are unreal. 8 mile (the song) is still the aspiration for me. Absolute dope sheeeeeiiiittt.

Then Encore came out and it's been hit or miss ever since.
