Why don't they seem to understand that Eminem doesn't intend to offend gays. He's stated countless times that he doesn't use the word faggot in the sense that offends. Even in Eminem's early career, I've always taken his banter as part of his shady persona, sort of a fantasy in a sense if you will.
Why do books, shows, and movies tend to get away with gay/misogynistic/racial slurs? It's probably because they understand it's an act or it fills a purpose and in Em's case the critics fail to see that.
Here's a perfect example illustrating the use of slurs. This is really funny a bit by Louie and it explains what Em always tries to get across at least imo.

Really I just see this as an excuse that critics use. It's really not that big of a deal but they always seem to blow it the fuck up.
And I think XXL didn't give lyrics the score because of the homophobic content, wtf?
If I were to have criticize MMLP2 and point out the flaws, I would have pointed out the excessive choppy flows and the delivery (which wasn't that big of a deal he made it work in some songs imo) and the unnecessary punchlines and wordplay throughout. Not that I dislike it or anything like that, it's just the timing is bad. Shit like that don't belong in serious songs. Eminem needs to know when separate the underground battle mc and the artist.
Now I am far from a critic but that's just an example of what should be judged if anything. I love the album and seeing it get trashed for the homophobia and shit is absurd.
