Do you feel the promotion misguided you?

Postby Trilla » Nov 9th, '13, 19:30

Looking back at the first trailers of the album that premiered during the VMA's, and I'm almost certain I'm not the only one who feels tricked; seeing Dre's name back on an Eminem album, even if he is just one of the exec-producers.

Look how FUCKING AWESOME that looks. My initial reaction upon seeing this during the VMA's was "WHAT THE FUCK!?" I was blown away. Seeing the red colored Impact font MMLP 2 bounce to the beat made me wet my pants, it was a dream come true.

Then, the second trailer:

That hook sounded so reminiscent of early 2000-Eminem. He had his blonde hair back, too! It was unbelievable.

And, then...the album leaked...

And it was the most...unpredictable (for lack of a better word) album I had ever heard. While he did drop the bad "in other words" punchline set-up, and his lyrics began to revisit the humor he had during the beginning of his career, I soon realized that the production and flow of the album was absolutely the least possible sounding an album named MMLP 2 could sound.

Who would have thought that he would pull out some 70's beats after singles like "Rap God", "Survival", "The Monster". Just, out of all the sounds this album could have had, he decided to spit over production that hasn't been relevant in over 40 years...

Believe me, I don't want Eminem to make a mainstream album. But...he called his album MMLP 2 and threw THOSE beats on there? You got to be kidding me. Especially with that irritating flow? Oh man...

"Brainless", "Headlights", "Bad Guy", "So Much Better", "Evil Twin", "Groundhog Day", "Baby", and even "Berzerk" have beats that sound like they would fit an album titled MMLP 2.

I don't hate any of the songs that DO have the 70's production, I just wish they weren't there.

That's really the only two reasons I dislike this album: the beats and the flow.

Oh well, guess beggars can't be choosey.

Dre exec produced it... just because he didn't start some of the beats from scratch doesn't mean he's not all over that album. There's a little dre on every beat, if you listen.

The Rick Rubin samples are the most interesting parts of the album.

Kind of, but not in a bad way. Those first commercials made, and then the Berzerk video, made me feel a certain way about the album. Then, when the track list came out and Survival was on the album, I got really worried and confused. At that point I didn't know what to expect with the album. I'm very happy with what we got though.

Actually it said in the Rubin Interview that Dre just mixed Berzerk... That's literally all he did.

As a lifelong fan I've felt totally deceived. I bought every Eminem and d12 album and listened to them for 2 days straight before I got this one. I feeltjat it was a big letdown to call it MMLP. Even through Ems dark times I supported him. If it wasn't for fans true fans like us who there since day 1 since the day we hear him say "hi" and enjoyed all the controversy he wouldn't have got famous. I feel owed.

Not really, people assumed too much and were disappointed when their assumptions were not met. Dumb asses. No reason to believe MMLP2 was going to be anything else than what we got.

If you mean I didn't have expectations of it being as good as the first one then you're right. But I expected a great album and that's what we got. Would you be hating on it less if it wasn't called MMLP2?

Really, we had no reason to assume anything.
