stan references in bad guy

Postby infinite2hts » Nov 10th, '13, 09:21

i wish Em had restrained himself from making it so blatantly obvious that bad guy is a stan pt 2 with all those references.
i mean the song as a whole is already so obvious -that it is rapped in the perspective of mathew.

but then Em had to go and mention ' eminem killed by m&m mathew mitchell ". like he wants to make sure that his dumb fans dont mistake this song for anything else.

a ' little ' mistery in songs is a good thing Em.

Good point yo. I think "Bad Guy" was actually done well, but in general he does this more now.

He made / told Skylar to do that in "C'Mon Let Me Ride" when she sings that little bridge when she says 'fuck you for thinking it's true'... that's so fucking corny to do that.

The point is: if a person doesn't get it from the clues and how he naturally makes it... he ain't making it for them any way! He's making it for the people who do get it. So why fucking over explain or dumb shit down for people who are too stupid to get it in the first place.

But honestly, I think he just couldn't resist the Eminem / M & M pun thang, which kind of works well and sounds like a nice little meta line initially, whether he used it for that reason or not.

It was not obvious on first listen, when that mathew Mitchell line comes on then it's like ur hit by an epiphany. It was executed very well, why the fuck does everyone on this forum complain about the most stupid shit :facepalm

^ This. So much this.
People didn't know, shit, people still don't realize it's a sequel to Stan.
Not everybody is a rabid Stan like most of us are.

The " Surprise " factor worked only in first listen.

After that the song does not hold any 'surprise' value.

it loses its ' wow ' factor after a couple of listens.

lines like " you expect me to get over him "
" i initially was gonna bury next to my brother "

are good enough to give a hint that it is mathew. Similarly a few other indirect references would have worked very well making fans wonder / talk about it.

You know, it's bad because it wasn't on Relapse. If it was it'd be better than Stan :coffee:
