What's to say he didn't have an inside joke with the person in question about November 31st? It may be an incredibly personal date that just doesn't exist.

This forum seems to try and claim some sort of monopoly over Em's life. The moment he references something that you can't work out, all kinds of crazy rumours start.

There's massive periods of Em's life that he will never elaborate on. The genius of that one line shows that the track can apply to any number of situations.

I dunno if someone has already posted something like this, but I like to think that it was some sort of inside meaning between Em and Kim. Like, saying that the anniversary was on Nov. 31st would only make sense to Kim if she heard it. Gives the song a little more of a depressing feel, and I don't think it's anymore of a reach than what other people are saying.

I personally think this song is about the same girl from Space Bound, "after year and six months, it's no longer me that you want" and "would've been our anniversary, 2 years, but you left on the first of May". I think he has dated a fair amount in the last handful of years, we'd just never know about it because paps never find him to snap their pictures together.
