Was not expecting such a positive review.

I feel like I would take Fantano more seriously if he didn't insist on giving scores in the most pretentious way possible. Hipsters don't need scores, dude.

Why is this causing such a stir? it's a fucking 7/10 :facepalm

Em fans are all giddy that he gave it a good not great rating. And other people are butthurt over it. Both sides are acting like he gave it a perfect 10.

Sounds like you have no clue how Fantano rates album.

A 7/10 is a great rating from him. Fact. We are just excited that he 'really dug it'(as said from the video)

Lol. This Fantano dude....
Y'all act like he's the voice of reason or some shit. That's why I never give a rat's ass about reviews. Just like Spin Magazine giving MMLP a 6/10 yet the album is diamond now. 10 million is a lot of people.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

I'm subscribed to his channel and watch most of his reviews. He's really tough with his scores, yes, but just as tough as Pitchfork (although he never seems to agree with them). I guess I don't see the big deal.

This is The Needle Drop he has only given out one 10 in his whole career and it was a light 10. Most records don't get 7's on his channel it' a great rating actually. It's also a better rating than MCHG, Yeezus, Wolf, Nothing was the Same and Doris.

Oh it also beat MBDTF which KTT sucks off all day (Don't get me wrong I like the record but WAY over hyped)

Beautiful Pain is one of the best songs ever. Very strong, it's the direction he needs to take. No more Brainless, Love Game, Puke.

Does anyone else feel like Beautiful Pain is a mastery of his Recovery style? I can almost hear people freaking out about it if it was released before the album.

Beautiful Pain is definitely a Recovery type of track, or similar.

But that's not a bad thing, his flow after the first couple lines on that 2nd verse is undeniable.

No, it's not even close to Recovery, it's on a whole new gear. It's way more serious.

Fantano is usually spot on with his reviews cause he takes a broad approach to it. He mainly listens and critiques from the broad spectrum of the current music scene and listens to various genres. Rating it a 7 means he respects the boldness and aggressive experimentation that em takes on this project. He is one of the top 5 rappers who puts the music first which is a lost art nowadays.
