I don't think he particularly wanted "The Monster" there.

If you hear his explanation of how it came together, it 'was last minute' and he has no real explanation or care for the song other than he thought Rihanna would 'smash it'.

It was a song brought to Eminem by an executive who thought it would be a hit.

Clearly it was made last minute to be a single because Jimmy didn't think they had one.

Ironically, I think the singles for Recovery are the only album where the singles were not a compromised direction from the album. Those songs don't feel like out of place additions, they match the rest of the material as the entire album was made in that way.

Imma be honest. The monster was the song that assured me eminem was back on his game. It's gonna go down as one of his most memorable songs when it's all said and done. It's not a great "rap" record but a great "song". When eminem gets back to doing great "songs", he does it like no one else does.

You really think it'll go down as one of his best songs, ? lol.

It's a good song, but it won't, because you could take that beat and that hook and have pretty much any mainstream rapper rap over that right now. Musically, it's totally expected, and generic.

Where as if you take some of his best songs which stand the test of time like "The Way I Am", or even "Without Me"... they're not at all musically generic. They are clearly HIS music.

Slik are you fucking serious, LTWYL didn't boost his sales by that much LMAO. This is Eminem, who was far popular before he even spoke Rihanna's fucking name. You call me stupid but I swear you make some of the dumbest fucking comments sometime that are Hopsinshadie-esque. For the sake of just saying something. And 3/4 of the time it's totally useless. Might as well leave this site and have your vet status stripped away because you are very undeserving. Not to say I deserve it any better but lol at the likes of you being a vet on this site.

Your stupid as shit argument in this thread has made me no longer take you serious you chump.

He is the 1st artist ever to have his whole discography in the top 200.

I hear you though dude. :D

Yeah but people don't buy his albums because of his singles.

I don't think they make much difference with him.

It's the content of them, not how big they are on the charts.

Of course I understand why they're doing it, I'm saying - I wish they wouldn't. And also that Em would just be more ballsy and creative with it - getting Rihanna to sing another predictable broad hook as he raps about fame is the bottom of his creative barrel. Remember when "Stan" was his single?

"Stan" drove the MMLP album sales. Not because it was a huge pop single. Because it was intriguing. And because of that - it's lasted the ages, it still sounds amazing 13 years later and stands as a solo masterpiece by him. Do you think "The Monster" will sound great in 13 years?

Again my man, you're missing the point. No, I don't think "Monster" will sound as good as "Stan" 13 years from now.

The rest of the album is cool, but this one is a turd. Generic, poppy chord progression. Generic chorus. Poor flow.

Rihanna was only included to make the song as big as possible, unlike LTWYL where she was there for other reasons. Overall, a pussy move from Eminem.

Love the Way You Lie definitely helped the longevity of the album in terms of sales. It didn't get real big until after the album came out, but that album sold over 4.5 million domestically because it had good longevity.

You all are way way way too generous giving rankings for MMLP2. No way in million years does The Monster deserve to be anywhere near My Fault or Drips, and no way is Survival above a mediocre 5.

Oh and The Monster is his worst song IMO since We Made You or maybe even Fack. Thank god 18 out 21 songs from MMLP2 are dope. But I think how good the rest are only highlight how utterly worthless The Monster is.

It's seriously some Katy Perry Miley Cyrus shit.

I'll take window pane/volcano and tornado lines any day over yodeling/oohh oooh oooo shit/Katy Perry beats.

Of course it did you fucking moron. That's why Recovery stayed #1 for 10 weeks or something. Eminem himself thanked Rihanna for it. If you really think LTWYL didn't help sell units you are just kidding yourself. God you are fucking stupid.

It doesn't matter if it's Eminem, times have changed.

Relapse only sold 600k copies first week. Compare that to the numbers Recovery achieved - an album plagued by poppy-ness and Rihanna - 741k first week.

The only reasons MMLP 2 sold as much as it did was most likely the nostalgia factor, AND RIHANNA.

Pop stars will make you sell, bruh. It's a god-given fact in the music industry. This is why Eminem was so rebellious back in the day, because he was tired of the bullshit. He wanted to prove he could sell without pop stars.

Wtf? Man, I believe you have some very alarming social issues you need to take care of right away, because, you are one of the few people here that actually take this site seriously.

It's funny when people tell me I don't "deserve" to be a vet. I never asked to be a vet. I'm not an asskisser, I really don't care about what colour my username is. SajN nominated me and the forum voted me in. The majority of the people that are active members think I "deserve" it.

You could honestly take it from me and I would not care. It's not a real thing. Some people take it so seriously lol

I can understand someone with a really pop-hating ear to put My Fault above TM & Survival, but Drips? I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this yo

I don't hate pop music, in fact I listen to some from time to time... I just hate hooks like the one on The Monster. The first time I heard it I felt like I've already known it for years... so many hooks out there sound similar... and the beat is terrible.

As for My fault and Drips, I like both. I just think that My Fault is the better song - it's funnier, has a better chorus, very good storytelling... and all the little details like noises and sounds in the background are great... I love the outro too, it's hilarious. That's why I give it 8/10. I rate most songs on SSLP even higher, that album is just perfect.
