Why do you think Em interviews with the same people? Hell, they even brought Big Tigger back for the rap basement. He doesn't do Hot 97's Juan Epstein (except for that one time with Royce), Power 105's Breakfast Show, he stopped visiting Angie Martinez... These are staples in hip hop media. Even Elliott Wilson didn't get a CRWN segment with him through Rap Radar, and him and Paul are in business together. It's pretty obvious Em is a protected celebrity, and considering his stature, rightfully so.
But I also think it's fair for fans to be frustrated and want more because Em is so candid in his music... We can't help it if we want to know more. And he was always so open before in interviews, so when he came back from his drug issues and refused to talk about his family... It sucks because it's not something we're used to.
I remember in 2009, Em went on Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy asked about Hailie, but he didn't say much, and the bit was eventually cut off from the aired program. I also remember when Em was on Z100 and he flat out said he wasn't going to answer questions about his kids. And even with this interview, the way Zane worded it, he knew Em wasn't going to explicitly talk about his mom and their relationship. But I liked what he said, showing Em our perspective because he's right, we've been on that journey through his music too, a song like Headlights means a lot to us. Like, Cleanin' Out My Closet was a single that got played on the radio, people knew every word to that song. And then he backtracks and apologizes on the new record? That's heavy shit. Listeners are going to be moved and want to ask about it.
On a different note, I'm almost positive that Stronger Than I Was is about Kim now because no one has fuckin' said anything about it. When really, all someone has to ask, even without mentioning the content of the song, is why the fuck he chose to sing 3/4 of that song? Only other time he did that was on Hailie's Song (another really personal song).
But I digress. I enjoyed the interview. Em puts a lot of himself in his music and career, I think we as fans can respect that and enjoy whatever we get.
Don't judge me by my post count.
