This song is pure genius; an absolute masterpiece.
You have all these wacks calling themselve gods, or lords, or kings or other dumb shit like that. Take Kanye for example and the embarrassing "I Am A God". Dude tries so hard to make a point and be serious about it, it just ends up being laughable since he simply doesn't have the skill to match his self-proclaimed title.
Then you have Em's Rap God, which is like the total opposite. Em doesn't need to brag (although he could) about his immense popularity, or the millions upon millions upon millions of shit he has sold over the years, or how he's still the most relevant rap artist in the game years after entering it. He doesn't need to come up with pretentious "art" bullshit, no, he proves why he's a rap god with nothing but showcasing pure skill and domination over this art form. 6 minutes of insane flows, rhymes, punchlines, and every one of the things that made Eminem be where he is now.
I love Em's tone throughout the whole thing. Like he said, it's tongue-in-cheek. But by being this self-aware, he sounds so confident and bad-fucking-ass. Again, unlike others who try so hard to be perceived as "badasses" but failing miserably at it.
One thing that I noticed with this song is that it makes fuckboi current Eminem, or Eminem haters in general, freaking rage. Makes total sense. How else can you keep saying that he fell off, or that he's a pop artist, or some of the other dumbshit arguments against him when he drops a song like this? The part of the third verse with the super-sonic flow specially addresses those claims and make them rage even more.
In conclusion, this song is incredible. I love the reception it got. I love how it makes people rage. I love how it is so controversial. And I love how it is exactly what the song title suggests.
Most of this probably has already being talked to death, but fuck it, I just wanna say again that Rap God is a masterpiece.
