MMLP2 is kinda lacking...

Postby Satan » Nov 29th, '13, 15:18

I mean, yeah, y'know what I mean?

I mean, yeah, it's a good album, and not even an average album but, I dunno, yeah, something about it seems more like, empty than the rest of his albums

Take "Recovery" for example, man, I mean, every type of fan got their fill of Eminem, y'know what I mean, like, Slim Shady, the famous "emotion" tracks, and y'know, tracks where Eminem is a pimp, y'know?

"Relapse" would've been his like, 4th classic maybe, if not for those last 3 tracks, y'know? I mean, the, y'know, imagery and shit really brings you into the atmosphere, and yeah, the like, y'know, mmhmm, I just really love his energy, just damn those y'know, last, yeah, three tracks, y'know?

But "MMLP2" I dunno, yeah, I guess, maybe, no, he doesn't have much, like, diversity. None of the tracks like, yeah, sound alike. It doesn't please me, y'know what I'm sayin? Maybe if I was like, a dumbass, I'd enjoy the record, but y'know, I'm pretty cool, so I, y'know, I don't hate it, but y'know, it just pissed me off how it could've, y'know, been the next "Relapse".

I dunno, yeah, y'know, y'know what I mean?

Take for example Stronger Than I was and Headlights. It's too much emotions. It misses some zany tracks like Relapse had.

I mean, yeah, y'know, I know. Relapse's storyline was like a movie, y'know?

I actually completely agree. IMO recovery is more balanced which = more replay value. Not saying Recovery is better, The lyrics and flow on MMLP2 are a huge improvement over Recovery. Its just...idk kind of hard to explain. With recovery he had new topics to talk about (addiction, proof, making a come back, etc.) and it was the first time hes worked with new producer's so it sounded fresh. I didn't like the idea of him revisiting old topics because we've heard it all before...the bullied past, absent father, struggling with fame, He's addressed these topics TONS of times. I just didn't want to post my opinion because i figured everyone would call me nuts lol

I mean come on guys lets be real, as I said - How many songs has he made where he's addressed his dad? being bullied? His shitty love life? How he hates fame b.c he can't go into public? If I really wanted too I could probably list 5-10 songs that fit into each one of those categories. I'm not trashing the album, I LOVE the album and I'm not necessarily saying he didn't deliver on this album because he did. I'm just saying i can understand why someone would say the album is missing something. I am very proud to call myself a "stan" but I'm not going to dick ride everything he does.

I think you just summed up like 30% of Embase posts in seven words and one number.

He said all that on Recovery to and you said he had new topics :confusion:
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

How many songs on Recovery does he refer to his drug addiction and how it's so horrible and "boo hoo woe is me I'm depressed"? Finding new ways to approach old topics has always been Em's strength, and on MMLP2, that should be even more emphasized, since the entire concept is to revisit old topics with a new mindset.

For example, instead of getting pissed at people bothering him due to his fame, Em approaches the topic with a more neutral and clear-minded perspective and begins thinking of the positives (The Monster). He even makes fun of his own annoyance at being bothered and himself in general on So Far, where he utilized that classic crass but hilarious Shady-esque humour which was almost completly absent on Relapse and completely absent on Recovery, where he spat monotone rhymes telling us of his woes instead of making an interesting song out of it. Instead of making a song moaning about how he was bullied, he made a song where he tells us in a compelling story how he found his salvation in comic books and rap, and how music built his confidence (Legacy). He even makes a Slim Shady mirror of it (Brainless) where he approaches the topic with an angrier and crazy mindset, giving us a nice contrast.

His love life? He approaches it with two perspectives: One, a song where he talks about moving on (Stronger Than I Was) which wasn't the best, but at least it was different. He also gives us another song where he just goes into full Slim Shady mode and bashes the fuck out of the poor girl with hilariously misogynistic lyrics with a suitably genuine angry delivery.

Recovery isn't a horrible album, but it's not good. When compared with MMLP2, it is worse than dogshit. Listen to the fucking lyrics.
