I think this one is even deeper than we think. For one, there's that obvious jab at Palin and the movie reference. But one of the actors from that movie is playing "marshall" in How I met your mother too. I think there was an episode about a girl named sarah and it had something to do with Marshall. I'm actually sure about that, can't remember though.

Also, this could be unlikely but..Sarah Mathers is one of Em's half relatives who decided to come out of the woodwork when they heard he became famous. He could still be angry at his family reaching for his money? Or at least referencing it.

It's a stretch.

I'm pretty sure the only thing here is the play on the movie title 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', and then him passing it off by ad-libing a name he's gone after before that starts with Sarah.

In addition to that line from "Stan", another one is:

Then on "Bad Guy" he mentions his lack of a conscience. Definitely a reference, there isn't a chance in frozen Hell that Em didn't study the fuck out of that song.

He had to know every single detail of Stan to make tons of references on "Bad Guy". Moreover, Em knows everything about his songs (ofc but now he remembered MMLP details and shit to record MMLP2) and I believe there's much more on the album.

btw, he didn't reference that line on "Drug Ballad" (when he'd be 40), didn't he? I didn't notice so far.
