I don't know how glaring his homophobia is when he's good friends with Elton John and has said on numerous occasions he doesn't care what a person's sexual orientation is.

Are his lines dated? Perhaps. But he's right, coming up in the battle scene, cracking gay jokes against your opponent was common. Even for me in high school, that was the norm.

Does that make it right? Certainly not. Does that mean anyone who's ever used the f word or made gay jokes wants to beat up homosexuals? Deny them of basic human rights? Absolutely not.

I have never listened to an Eminem song and got the feeling he legit hates homosexuals, transgendered, women, people with disabilities, etc. It's just music.

The point is - he's not making a mistake.

He's not behind the times and accidentally letting phrases slip and like 'oops'...

He's intentionally making himself sound homophobic to fuck with the perception! He's challenging the listener to figure out what's what! Since day one.

Even back in the day, hence 'homophobic? Nah you're just heterophobic'.

The fact critics can grasp Shakespeare yet still are confused by Eminem's playground concept is absolutely bizarre.

That's true too. What I also fail to understand is -- how critics don't realize that the best form of attack against someone like Eminem is apathy. Ignoring him is the best way to get at him because then he has no critics to write about, no one to prove himself to, no one to light his fire.

You think Eminem is actually upset that critics continue to misinterpret his music and bitch about it? He probably loves that shit. He grew up being overlooked in the rap game because of the color of his skin. Now his lyrics are under a microscope. He continues to be a controversial figure 15 years after his first commercial album and he's never had to do it with obvious, thinly veiled publicity stunts.

TR should ban everyone who uses F word. It's so offensive I cried all night and I'm not even gay.

If he were homophobic would it change your opinion of him? Would it effect whether you liked him and his music? Just wondering.

It would change my opinion of him.

It wouldn't affect how I like his music, since how much I like his music is not based on his worldly views... of course they enter in to everything conceptually... hmm, I guess in that sense it would dampen the artistic brilliance of many of his thoughts, since they'd be based in procedure.

But he's not, he's using the misconception AS a tool of provocation, and always has.

And 13 years later, people still don't get it, and act like it's incidental / a flaw lmao.

Troll denied btw.

What? You think saying the f-word is making him relevant? You think it still shocks people?

^The word "faggot" is an everyday word to some people, including me, and i'm not homophobic..
Em using that word should be a good thing, Because it shows that he doesn't compromise his lyrics for anyone, in other words, he's a real emcee, unlike all the phonies that flood the mainstream..
Plus ask Dre if Ems homophobic or not, "suck it marshall" ;)

Yet they get over it. They don't even just get over it. The females he's talking shit about buy his albums and keep him on the radio so other people can buy his albums.

Exactly man, its totally hypocritical the way Em gets treated by the media

lol Eminem talked about killing the fucking president. But saying fag is completely out of bounds.

Homophobic is such a bullshit term, anyway. Like, if you hate gay people...you're not afraid of them. So, what the heck is the phobia? And if it IS a phobia, then it's like other phobias...a psychological issue. So you'd be making fun of Em's mental health. That is not cool, yo. :shakehead:

I don't think making fun of gay people means you hate gay people. What the fuck, everyone should be open to mockery. Heck, I believe in God and listen to rappers who talk about murdering preachers and stuff. Music is music. It's one thing if someone's writing a message song, trying to make a point. Critique that. But a lot of rap lyrics are...rhyming for the sake of making witty bars to impress fans. It's not meant to be taken as a literal representation of their mindstate.

Well, I'm a girl and I know he doesn't really hate women, at least not all women.
The line on Stan where he's like: "Maybe you need to threat her better" is one of these lines where he shows his true standpoint, for those who didn't understand him before. It's just music and I can see the difference between music and reality. Guess many girls do that too.

Does he hate bitches? Probably. :p
He obviously isn't someone who whorships women but I think that's better that way. I don't like womanizer tbh.

Oh and @Charlotte Mathers, I agree 100% with you.
Now you shut up bitch, I'm talking!

Eminem hates everyone except his daughters. Women, gays, straights.
