I think it's too early to determine whether or not this is a classic, but it's a solid album, and I enjoy it, so that's all that matters to me. No, I don't get the same fuzzy feeling as I did with his first three, but that very well could be the nostalgia I feel for them.
Anyway, this is what annoys me about rap. People think the "competitive" nature of it is good. I think in some ways it is and some ways it's not. I'm so tired of people saying x album is better than x album. X artist has a better discography than x artist, etc.
I don't see that in any other genre. I mostly listen to rock, and when I talk music with my rock friends, that shit never comes up. We don't say oh Led Zeppelin is better than The Beatles because they have more "certified classics" etc. You just say you like Led Zeppelin more because you like their sound more. But you can appreciate The Beatles. You don't hear shit about "top 5 bands dead or alive."
Everything in rap has to be a fucking contest between two artists. It's annoying. No album is objectively better than another. I think MBDTF is extremely overrated, a mediocre album at best, and Yeezus is electronica Encore. That's my personal opinion. I don't care if MBDTF is considered a classic among the hip hop community. I have my own opinion.
Same with Eminem. If people largely considered this a classic, or largely considered it a dud, I would still say this is a solid album because to me, that's what it is. I don't care what other people have to say about it.
