My point is that people who don't like his current music never will like anything released post-2004. People hated on Survival, but if it came out in 2002, people would be on its nuts.

Assuming Survival did come out in 2002.. then he would be in Recovery stage vs being one of the most controversial music acts of all time.. so no.. they wouldn't be on it's fucking nuts because he'd just be another rapper bragging about being a dope rapper. If he sold out as early as 2002 with that Recovery type shit he wouldn't of been able to sustain relevance like he has to this point.
Survival in 2013 - an AVERAGE song
Survival in 2002 - an AVERAGE song

Lose Yourself is not the point you wanna start a conversation then bring up Recovery-esk bullshit. Lose Yourself conceptially and lyrically is leaps and bounds beyond Survival.. Musically in general it's not even the same Eminem. If we were to compare his ability to make an anthem from Lose Yourself to Survival I'd say he fell off in that department. Vice versa if he released Survival back in the day (again he wouldn't even still be relevant at this point because he'd be so unbelievably average making music like that) then Lose Yourself now I'd say the dude IMPROVED.

Co-sign what BigRay said. No fucking point to this discussion.

Highly doubt it. People need to pull of the blinders that make you think every critique of current Eminem is baseless. He is NOT the same since getting older and obviously overcoming drugs he had to reinvent his musical approach.. Just because he IS MORE corny than he's ever been doesn't mean the audience is the issue.

Lose Yourself comes out today. I'd appreciate it as much as I did when I first heard it. That's what CLASSIC songs are made of. Fack comes out today and you'd probably defend and say people are unreasonable and only see what they want to. So, I guess you're probably right in that aspect.

so annoying that word :coffee:

Guarantee if Em didn't say it on a bunch of songs back in the day, the word would hardly ever be used here.

Use cheesy instead guys, trust me.

I don't know about all this. All the songs that sounded dope then still sound dope. The only difference is that I may have heard it 1000 times by now, that's the only difference, so it's not as fresh. But I wouldn't have liked Survival in 02. In 02, music was better, more competitive. So why would Survival get more praise then when it would be competing against better music? Makes no sense. At a time when 50 Cent came out and we had TES and 8 Mile? No way in hell would Survival be good in 02. You guys got it all wrong. The only reason why it's tolerated today is because there's so few good mainstream rappers out.

No, this is not so. I'm sure people found it corny then and do now. Just look at the posters now that are saying they always thought it was corny. The truth is if Lose Yourself came out it would be a number one hit. Even Not Afraid debuted as a number one hit. Do you know how much better Lose YOURSELF is compared to Not Afraid?

Well, yeah, that's true too. People use words like "corny" and "cheesy" and "campy" and it's anyone's guess by what someone actually means by them these days. It's usually the person trying to say something is "unKEWL," for whatever reason, but other people have weird ideas as to what the words actually mean. Campy is the stupidest one. Originally, it just meant "gay" or "theatrical/flamboyant in a homosexual style." Now people use it as a synonym for "cheesy," or they use it to classify silly things that are clearly intended to be funny as "campy," which essentially means you could call every comedy ever made "camp."

A better way to put it is simply, "You can do anything you set your mind to" is cliche and naive.
