I don't understand why either are even controversial. As far as Robertson, whether you agree or disagree, he's hardly being hateful. In a country that is supposedly one of the freest in the world you should be able to express opinions whether or not others agree and as far as Em is concerned he simply does it because it pisses people off and has already given his stance on gay rights people just love being "offended". Anyone that gets offended over a word needs to grow up.

You're missing the point as usual Horsebot.
He said homosexuality is a sin, like bestiality or adultery or fornication.
I, being a very ardent, nay, religious fornicator can decide to take offence, but no matter how many picket signs I design or how many trees I tie myself to in order to get him fired, nothing is going to happen to him because it's a tenet of his faith as told to him by his religious leader.
Why should homosexuality be any different?

I used to be pissed at some comments on ATRL and ONTD ...etc. Concerning Eminem’s so-called anti-gay issues, but I feel eased nowadays, because, just as you said, anyone gets offended over certain words cut off from certain songs without referencing the whole context and jump to a conclusion then throw JUDGEMENT at Em, I say they need to be perhaps more open-minded and focus on themselves.

To be honest the only shit that really bothered me was his comments about "the blacks" which it seems most missed..
And, I hate Leviticus being quoted/paraphrased out of context.. But, true Christians know the difference in the New and Old books..

At the end of the day no one should be surprised he has an archaic view of race or religion. He has the right to his Christian beliefs, just like Em has the right to say "faggot", and the onlookers have the right to be intolerant of both. By the way Eminem was literally picketed by gay-rights groups.. so lets not pretend like he's gotten away with it his whole career. He was also the subject of many articles on the use of "faggot" in Rap God.

SO, what I'd say to the OP is why are you cherry picking the responses and then saying the "intolerent" spectators are the ones cherry picking who they're mad at.

In 20 years this gay-rights issue will be just like the race issue.. and, don't anticipate a response from me.. I will leave it at this

Phil Robertson had a right to paraphrase Leviticus, Eminem had a right to say "faggot" (he supports gay-rights too btw), A&E had the right to suspend Robertson for his statements, and the spectators have a right to be intolerant of it.. no one's freedom of religion nor speech was infringed upon.. Good day.

Exactly. It's his beliefs so let the man think what he wants and move the fuck on.

I personally don't give a shit what people what to stick their dick in, but I am tired of gay people constantly forcing their gayness through the media and making everything always look like a fucking attack on them. I don't hate gays because their gay, I hate them because they are a bunch of whining fucks. It's fucking insane. If you want to be gay, be gay...just stop trying to tell me about it because I really don't give a fuck one way to the other.

Straight up, I support gay rights 100%, but I'm annoyed that Eminem is usually the only rapper that gets targeted for his lyrics. :confusion: Does the public expect homophobic laced lyrics from black rappers?

Lol exactly it seems more like a bias against Eminem. He grew up in a world where faggots aren't taken well lol he was raised to say faggot because of the masculinity of the hip hop culture. Just like how our grandparents grew up saying the n word and think being racist is okay. Em grew up in a time where calling someone a faggot was okay.

I agree that Em tends to get singled out and honestly i've never understood it. It's one man's opinion - who cares? People often argue that because he appeals to such a wide audience, especially teens (certainly back in the SSLP/MMLP days) he has some sort of responsibility but that's BS. If your child is listening to a record and taking some artist's opinion and adopting it as their own for no other reason short of it being because the artist said it, there is something wrong with your skills as a parent.

The thing that continues to get me is how stupid all of this is. A word is a word. You are the person who reads the string of letters mashed together and forms an interpretation. So choose not to be offended by the word and people who use it to hurt you will stop using it because it becomes pointless.

Or if you are THAT bothered by it don't listen to it.

Em has said a lot of shit about women over the years, but I choose not to be offended by it. I choose to listen to and interpret the lyrics in the context of the song and that's it.

The word "faggot" is still thrown around constantly in battle rap today, and it's not going to change any time soon, no matter how much pussies like 360 complain about it.

It's ridiculous that someone like 360 used the word "faggot" about 5 times each battle and 95% of the time it didn't have any connection to homosexuality...and now he's somehow been fooled by the pussy PC leftist media that he was being homophobic.

Thinking the word "faggot" still has no connection to homophobia is confused.

What an idiot.

It's much worse to hide behind your religion and try to actually justify anti-gay rhetoric than it is to rap tongue-in-cheek stuff and not be anti-gay.

-Fact 1: Christians(most) believe homosexuality is a sin and that gay people are going to hell.
-Fact 2: Gay Christians don't believe they're going to hell.
-Fact 3: Other gay people don't believe IN hell.
So the way I see it is this;
Duck Dynasty Guy: Hey, you fags, if you die you're going to a non-existent place with fire and brimstone according to a religion you don't believe in. Ha Ha.
Gay People: How dare you tell us we're going to a non-existent place with fire and brimstone according to a religion we think is so much bull-shit. RAAAAR.

No, thinking that a word has any connection to any belief without first considering the context of its usage is confused.

people still use it for homophobic reasons, regularly.

examples of no common knowledge of the context, ppl czn think it's for homophobic reasons. i agree that when the context is obvious, it's fine. but just throwing the word out there willy nilly isn't necessarily all good.

i'm pretty undecided on the word faggot
