I have trouble listening to Recovery now

Postby UofLCard » Dec 27th, '13, 03:17

Is it like that with anyone else? It's never been like this with previous LP releases/music.

MMLP2 made Recovery sound even worse, if that is possible.

I was thinking it was because Recovery is quite different, but Relapse is as different from Recovery and I still like to listen to that.

It just sounds like two completely different artists in my opinion. And I love Recovery. It was the first album I'd ever actually paid for.

But it just sounds like water trash from some random artist now.

I didn't fully understand this until being able to take in and understand MMLP2, as best I could in a month and a half anyway, but I remember the first time I heard Recovery. I was so happy he didn't have that fucking accent anymore my mind completely ignored the total lack of technical skill, incoherent storytelling and lackluster (to say the least) production. Looking back on MMLP2, Relapse & Refill and Encore, let alone his pre-8 Mile career, Recovery is a legit embarrassment and a shit tier hip hop album. Let's face it, nobody wants "part two to recovery or love the way you lie part twelve or something heartfelt". They want rap and for a brief period in 2010 Eminem forgot that. But almost immediately following the release of Recovery he clearly realized it and started putting out nothing but pure fire. The BME EP, Richard and the rest of the features from '11-'13, Symphony In H, etc. Then MMLP2 dropped and I realized what it was all leading up to. :worship: I honestly feel like Recovery could have never even been released and it wouldn't negatively influence his catalog. At all. And I don't think I can say that for any of his other albums.

@Revolutionary
I think I'm allowed to when people say stuff like " Recovery is a legit
embarrassment and a shit tier hip-hop album" and get co-signs.

Opinions are entitled to change your majesty, and you can't deny the album is mediocre as fuck. Even in the heat of the release i knew i was being sold a bill of goods. I genuinely disliked relapse when it came out, it was a while before i saw the genius in the lyrics because the delivery was so godawful. Recovery was the album i deserved, but not the one i needed. But if I can say anything about it, it made me appreciate relapse more.

also, it's funny how some people don't understand the concept of the passage of time causing things to sink in and be put into context.

I don't think the album is mediocre.
I know a lot of people who don't think the album is mediocre, the fact that they aren't avid Stans doesn't make their opinion void.
Saying an album is "shit-tier" and "embarrassment" isn't really an objective way to look at things, or to put it in another way;
I don't like the album =/= The album is shit tier.
Do you understand?
And I've been on TR for a bit, if I say that people on here flip-flop, then I've been given reason to think so.
Also, I don't know why you sound pissed in your reply, I didn't intend to insult you or anything. If I did, you would know it.

Here, on this forum, it kinda sorta does.

*sigh*
I said I've been here for a bit, so I know people flip-flop, how, in the name of Me is that pulling rank?
- So, the album is mediocre because you and a group of other people on the internet, who don't really make up a significant percentage of Eminem's fanbase thinks so? Okay.
- Saying the album is mediocre doesn't make it mediocre for just TR alone, you know.
@Mononym
It might come as a shock to you, but Pitchfork-I'm assuming that's where you got that rating from- aren't the sole determiners of quality music. It's shocking, right?
