beautiful pain lyrics help

hi , im trying to translate beautiful pain to my language but I just dont understand this sentence : you weathered it and poked its eye out "With the thorn bush that you used to smell the roses" . If anyone could explain thanks.

It goes along with the lyrics in the next line "stopped to inhale, can't even tell your nose is stuffed"
It means that you can smell the roses even with a blocked noses, they're that strong
and it's a metaphor which means to slow down and appreciate the smaller things in life that we take for granted every day

ok thanks but this sentence "With the thorn bush that you used to smell the roses" doesnt make sense to me

There's a phrase in the English language that goes "Stop and smell the roses". It basically means to stop and take a moment to appreciate a moment you're in. And with that line, that would be hard to 'smell the roses' when there literally are thorns on it.
