I think The Monster is a mess sonically, the beat sucks and Rihanna's hook is good but mixed with the song it's ugh... it just sounds terrible. Also Em's yodel is wack and I didn't like his soft delivery. On paper it's pretty good though.

Yeah, basically my thoughts. He could've saved the lyrics and worked on them and turned it into a less aggressive version of The Way I Am, but instead it looks like he just wrote them in 5 minutes and processed it into the "Smashing Pop Success Machine".

I can see why they kept it as a bonus cut. It's like the opposite in terms of quality to Desperation. Fantastic lyrics, great flow, but the beat is boring as shit and the hook makes me want to punch Sia in the face.

I agree that the beat is boring, but I think it's supposed to be; the lyrics are supposed to be the focal point.
