The problem with that sort of promotion though Elision, in my opinion, is that unless you're a fan of Tech N9ne, you won't see it. It doesn't really give those artists a chance to expand their fanbase past what he gets them through social media. They don't establish their own name, they become just a Tech imprint, sort of like what happened to Obie in the early 2000s.

That's where it gets difficult I think. Strange, being indie, doesn't really have the resources to advertise these artists as individual artists rather than "Tech N9ne's buddies". There's really no easy solution to it, and Strange might be doing to best they're able to in their situation.

Unfortunately, that does hold some of the signees back who have higher potential like Krizz, even if it does give them a good start.

As for Murs, it's a strange (no pun intended) fit. I always thought if he'd sign with Rhymesayers if anyone.

but you don't at least not for Krizz's Vitiligo (which is presented by tech n9ne) and even then most music is bought online these days. you know this.

The first thing that comes to mind for the average person when a SM artist is mentioned, is their affiliation with Tech N9ne. In contrast, guys like MF Doom, Brother Ali, and Dilated Peoples over at Rhymsayers have their own identity, and their affiliation with Atmosphere isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of them.

That has nothing to do with strange, tech just happens to be big enough to make those collabs happen. strange wouldn't deny their artists a chance to work with bigger names because of tech, that's ridiculous.

Tech N9ne gets the opportunity to speak about his upcoming projects constantly to well-established radio stations/web shows, and you can't really say the same for other SM artists.

Yes you can. I mean yeah tech typically gets more of these things but that's to be expected from a bigger artist.

Krizz Kaliko gets to on occasion, but the others? It just doesn't seem to happen.

Tech is on MTV talking about upcoming albums these days, with his videos in the rotation. On top of that, he's got more money pumped into his promotion.

Tech's also been in the game twice as long as any other artist on the label besides maybe kutt, and has at least triple the discography. He's paid his dues and is thus finally starting to emerge in the mainstream eye, which is a massive accomplishment for strange as a whole. Every artist on the label gains from this.

You can't expect an artist to thrive if you don't have any interviews set up, any promotional material in certain locations, or any tour dates set up.

does this apply to any artist on the roster today? shit a bunch of the artists are even doing their own tours. what do you want?

I remember for years Krizz & Kutt used to travel with Tech constantly just as a pair of bookends up on stage either side of him; that could have easily been time spent building their own fan bases, rather than just gaining a portion of Tech N9ne's.

Well keep in mind tech initially took krizz on board as a hypeman, and then he later flourished into his own artist. as for kutt, yeah it's a problem, which tech has spoke on, if you ask me it's just because he's a very 1-dimensional mc, he doesn't really have any notable qualities and thus doesn't make it onto anyones favorite's list.

Aone just told youBig name features on albums, a bigger album budget to work with, and then on top of that being a walking, talking Monster Energy billboard. He's raking the money in.

Bigger features are to be expected from a bigger artist. and where did you hear that tech gets a bigger album budget? also what does his monster deal have to do with strange?

What also adds to the problem is the way SM churn albums out. It seems like every single artist on the roster drops a new album every year, people can't keep up. Rushing an album out, giving it little promotion, and then repeating the process isn't the recipe for success.

I personally know someone signed to Strange and they just came off a week long "tour" with minimal to no promotion from the label, if that coupled with what Hesky said isn't enough to get through to you, then I give up.

I really don't blindly defend the dude. I'm the first to admit he often sacrifices intimate lyricism for flow and rhyme. also the rate at which he puts out projects recently needs to slow down for the sake of quality. that said, yeah i'm pretty into the dude and it sometimes gets hard to see beyond the stan goggles and seperate my opinion from objectivity. but i try.

nah i mean i enjoy listening to his podcast sometimes but i don't agree with a lot of the stuff he says. he's super interesting though and the people he manages to get on the podcast make for great conversations.
