No, that's not the point. There are typifications that I would associate with lesbians, and Ellen Page matches those. When she came out, it doesn't come across as a very big surprise. Is that bad of me? Most likely, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't associate typifications with every "group" of people, homosexual, heterosexual, certain races, certain social classes, or otherwise.
To answer your question, if I looked at Portia de Rossi (and didn't know she was a lesbian, which I did), I would probably be less likely to assume she was a lesbian than I would be looking at Ellen Page. That's probably not the best thing, but it's just how many peoples minds work.
That being said, I really couldn't care less if they're homosexual, straight, bisexual, attracted to mailboxes, or any other sort of sexual orientation. It makes no difference, but I'd say that Ellen Page definitely fits that stereotypical idea of a lesbian woman, and that's why it is not a surprise
to me.
