Honestly, it's just a gut-feeling sort of thing. I know girls who dress similarly, and are very humble people much like she is, who I wouldn't assume to be homosexual. So, no it's not just women ticking those boxes, there's women who tick all those boxes who I'd never assume to be gay.

Like I said, it's just a gut feeling. There's always surprises too though, and it's not like it really makes a difference whether they are gay or not.

No, that's not the point. There are typifications that I would associate with lesbians, and Ellen Page matches those. When she came out, it doesn't come across as a very big surprise. Is that bad of me? Most likely, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't associate typifications with every "group" of people, homosexual, heterosexual, certain races, certain social classes, or otherwise.

To answer your question, if I looked at Portia de Rossi (and didn't know she was a lesbian, which I did), I would probably be less likely to assume she was a lesbian than I would be looking at Ellen Page. That's probably not the best thing, but it's just how many peoples minds work.

That being said, I really couldn't care less if they're homosexual, straight, bisexual, attracted to mailboxes, or any other sort of sexual orientation. It makes no difference, but I'd say that Ellen Page definitely fits that stereotypical idea of a lesbian woman, and that's why it is not a surprise to me.

For me, Ellen is similar in several ways to Natalie Portman, for example. And she's clearly straight

I don't really follow celebrities enough to be able to give specific examples, and giving examples of people I know in real life would be pretty meaningless. Natalie Portman doesn't have the same mannerisms as Ellen Page (even though I can see some of the similarities), in my opinion. There's something about the way Ellen Page carries herself that seems quite boyish.

Not that being boyish instantly means someone is a lesbian (or that a dude being feminine instantly means he is gay), of course, just speaking to this specific example.

I've always thought that it's strange that so much women are hetero, it makes more sense for them to be lesbians.
