Lose Yourself - Written on set and recorded in one take in a mobile studio. It's clear Eminem is becoming unhinged as he succumbs to addiction but his skill has never been sharper. Quintuple platinum. Five Grammy nominations including the first ever song of the year nod for a rapper. First hip hop track to ever win an Oscar. 23 weeks in the top half of the Billboard Hot 100. Four VMA noms and one win.

No, he was introduced to Ambien on the set of 8 mile, which was what led to it spiraling out of control later. He wasn't "becoming unhinged as he succumbs to addiction." That happened after the movie had wrapped.

i thought the filming schedule of 8 Mile is what created a habit around Ambien and then right after 8 Mile, he started touring and the habit continued into a full blown addiction to a multiplicity of prescription benzos and opiates.

yeah this I think the tour between the movie and the fourth album had a lot to do with it too

Didn't the beef contribute to his drug use? I remember Jay saying in an interview he met Em at the studio and when he went to hug him he felt a bulletproof vest under his shirt.

And the fact he had a little girl and all that stuff during that time I'm sure freaked him out.

I always assumed that was the biggest reason. He was burned out mentally from working, touring, and constantly looking over his shoulder.

No, when they started shooting he was on probation for the gun incidents and getting tested regularly. He was introduced to Ambien on the set of 8 Mile, and after that wrapped and his probation ended (and he went on tour) it spiraled out of control.
