I'd say the ''Rap God'' video is kinda mind-blowing.
Mind-blowing is probably an over-statement but, definitely brilliant. And I'm surprised by the lack of visual praise for it; the Matrix homage concept to convey Em intaking and learning from all of rap's history, as it plays on the screens and he shouts it out, comments on it etc. / all adding up to a rap god is fly as fuck.
Then you have the Max Headroom shit and Em's hilarious facial expressions, which is the first example of Em being sarcastic and silly but not corny or cheesy... maybe ever actually. Because even in his prime, he was sarcastic and silly, but it was always kind of intentionally... corny, it's not like it was visually brilliant or felt like Em was truly comfortable in his own skin. It was just him being really stupid like a 10 year old.
But in the Max Headroom shit - doesn't feel the need to have to 'be a rapper' with hand movements etc., he's just expressing those badass lines as if they're dialogue to a script, and the way it's all chopped up like it is adds to the manic, chop and change flow and feel of the song. Matches perfectly.
Then you have that supersonic speed part, visually brilliant, and also when he's rapping against himself, like he's a school teacher telling himself off, wagging his finger n shit.
It's one of his best videos ever. There's a lot going on but it feels really well done visually.
Also, I think the ''Berzerk'' video is pretty visually classic and also has a dope concept with the whole Beastie's homage vibe. And is quite innovative and experimental in spots. Definitely a step-up.
I think MMLP2 vids have been some of his best. But then ironically, you have ''Headlights'' which is one of his all-time biggest fails of a video, and it's directed by a world class film director. LEL.
