Bad Meets Evil hook writing

Postby EminemInsider » Jun 27th, '14, 07:41

I'm really wondering how Eminem and Royce distributed the writing here. This is the one instance where I'm not entirely sure because Eminem and Royce had the same rhyming philosophies.

I would think the "we hit the trees/Vietnamese people" stuff was Eminem's, but what about Royce coming in with, "he's insane" after Eminem says, "cold enough to make the seasons change into freezing rain?" To me, that sounds like something Eminem would have written for him, but did he?

And then at the end, Royce adds a couple new lines after repeating the first two from Eminem's extended hook.

It's not like it is with Dr. Dre, where you can be sure the entire thing was crafted by Eminem, so any woven back-and-forth stuff is irrelevant. In this instance, it's like you have Michael Jordan in the studio with Kobe Bryant. "Wait, who did that move? Seems like something Jordanem would do, but Kobe da Bryant is dope enough to where one can't be entirely sure."

We can only speculate if any of them added parts for the other to rap to but I'm sure they must take time to help each other out at points. Em says that they would each rap a part then stop at a certain point - and let the other continue the rap but the must finesse each other's lines in order to create a righty woven verse. When you listen to the 3rd verse of I'm on Everything/A kiss they're interplay is amazingly seamless. Maybe their chemistry is just 10/10 tho and the just let each other do their own thing knowing that they can play off each other so well. Who knows :p

LOL @ "Kobe da Bryant."

Yeah, I think Eminem wrote the "me neither" and "he's insane" parts too. I think a collaboration feels more organic when you have one writer and two voice-artists because it just seems to join more smoothly. That's why Hell: The Sequel is a clusterfuck and Eminem's back-and-forths with Dre have always been dope.

Any kind of dialogue in this song was probably Eminem's writing. He may have possibly gotten Royce to act out ad libs/lines of dialogue he had originally planned to do himself in another voice, like he does on his other underground verses.

I think ever since the collaboration tracks on Infinite with no interplay, he wanted to have more of a back-and-forth feel and make it feel like an actual collaboration on the next album.

So he probably jot down a few cool, creative ideas he had in mind for a collaboration, like introducing the other rapper's verse by quoting him. He made a choice and said, "[Other dude starts rapping]"
