That Marsh is not mellow line is pretty dope
It's like he literally practiced in front of us. Because he hadn't done puns properly for a minute. He'd always sprinkled them very lightly and tongue-in-cheek as if ''this is shit... get it?'' but not since Infinite had he really full-on embraced the pun as a proper tool for lyricism.
Recovery does have some of the clumbsiest and most terrible I've heard, which is really weird considering it's EMINEM. We just weren't used to hearing him be so... shit. Like, we'd heard him be silly (Fack) or lazy (Rain Man) but never like "I'M TRYING" but then it actually just being bad or embarrassing.
It's shocking that IMO IMO IMO the greatest lyricist ever displays some of the worst lyricism ever in terms of crafting puns... he literally writes them... literally. He just writes the entire literal formation of an idea to get to a pun lmao, rather than actually writing a line which incorporates the concept of the pun.
BUT, there are some dope ones on dur too.
"You can get the dick! Just call me the ball-sack, I'm nuts; Michael Vick in this
bitch dog, fall back ya
mutts" is pretty fly as an opening line / string of associative language punzzzz.
What else. Hmm. Oh yeah:
"Who raps circles and forms pyramids around square lyricists?" >>>>>>>>>
