Lucid Dream

Postby SajN » Jul 8th, '14, 19:52

Anyone else into this?

Lucid dreaming is when you have a dream, and you realize you're just dreaming. By using that knowledge, you can then alter the dream to do whatever you want. It feels very realistic.

Many people are mistaken, and think that remembering the dream, or if the dream is going as you planned before you went to sleep is lucid dreaming, but it's not. It's lucid dreaming when you know you're dreaming, and have control of almost everything in the dream. Teleport somewhere, fly, alter different objects, summon different people, etc.

I've always been good at remembering my dreams, which is important when it comes to lucid dreaming. When I was young I used to have few lucid dreams, but in the later years I haven't been able to do it (but I haven't tried either, except lately).

There are different techniques to achieve a lucid dream. If people are interested, I can mention some of them.

I used to try couple months ago, but then I stopped doing it. Now I am back at it again, and hopefully I'll manage to lucid dream. I made it once this year, but it was very short.

I was in the bed and doing one technique called FILD (Finger Induced Lucid Dream) and I did a little reality check while in bed by pinching my nose and closing my mouth, and trying to breath. I managed to breath even though my airways were blocked, so I figured I was definitely dreaming. The dream wasn't stabilized so I wasn't seeing very clearly. I sat up, saw a pen on the ground, and thought I should try to make it fly to my hand, and it worked. But then I lost control and the dream changed.
Maybe I was just dreaming that I had a lucid dream, or maybe I did actually have a lucid dream. Either way, it was a good start, but then I got lazy and stopped trying to lucid dream.

I have problems with remembering my dreams and I tried keeping dream journal. It kinda helped me improve on remembering but I still couldn't Lucid dream. But a couple weeks ago I was dreaming that I was driving some nice black Porsche with my friends and when I stopped at the gas station I used gasoline pump but when I started driving again, it came to my mind that I didn't know if the car is run on diesel or gasoline. I told it to my friends, they said that I'm fucked up but that's then I realized it's a dream and I said it loud. The dream was fun after that. Unfortunately that was the only Lucid dream experience I had.

That's some good shit. I have several dreams each night and yet I can't suddenly realize that "wait, this is just a dream" no matter if whatever is happening is not something that could happen in real life. People say that the way you did, is the best way to achieve a lucid dream, and that's the technique I'll aim for now, instead of doing the FILD technique.
Even though I am pretty good at remembering my dreams, I started keeping a dream journal couple days ago. Maybe it will help. Doing few reality checks everyday is also very helpful.

Do you know how to practice this technique? For me it was just an accident. I wasn't writing in my dream journal and I didn't think about Lucid dreaming for some time before this happening.

EDIT: BTW I ALWAYS forget to do reality checks. I remember about them only before sleeping :D

It's called Dream Induced Lucid Dream (DILD).
A dream journal can help, especially if you manage to point out things or people that often occur in your dreams, because when you then see it in a dream, you might recognize it, and realize you're dreaming.

You gotta teach yourself to ask the question "am I dreaming?" in a dream, and to do that you must do it several times a day in real life, at least two or three times. Believe what you're asking, and believe you're in a dream. Look at your surroundings to see if everything is normal, and do a reality check. While doing so, you must keep questioning if it's real or not. An RC can be counting your fingers, or like I did by blocking my airways and trying to breath. Tell yourself that when you're dreaming you will do a RC like this.

And then all it takes is some practise. Make your mind get used to this and sooner or later you'll do the same in the dream.

I downloaded an app on my Android two days ago, where I can keep track of my dream journal, and it also give you notifications three (you decide how many) notifications a day where it remind you to do a reality check.
If you're interested, it's called "Lucidity - Lucid Dream Journal".

Flying is something I (and everyone else) definitely want to try :y:

To those of you who smoke weed, do you remember your dreams well if you've smoked the night before you go tosleep? Do you manage to lucid dream if you've smoked the night before you go to sleep?

I smoke a lot so it's hard to keep track of the lucid ones
I remember them high or sober

Lucid dreams are usually when I fall asleep after I wake up around 6am

Yeah, several of the techniques involve sleeping for 4-6 hours, then waking up and trying the method, as it's when your dreams are at your REM stage.

Failed it this night as well -.-

Had a dream where I was looking for a suspect - Shawn Spencer style - and was accusing a pretty girl for something, but while doing that I realized I was wrong, and then pointed my finger at another girl in the room and said, "but wait... it wasn't her. It was you!". Then I was suddenly in a nice room and my mom was there and said it was a nice room, and that's it...
