Em, then, would come to Dre, listen to the instrumentals he made and choose the best ones, the ones who fit more to the lyrics/theme he was trying to develop.

I refuse to believe that Em had creative control on Recovery. Iovine wanted profit so much that he literally went for the most mainstream production possible. I can't imagine Em like "yo dog, I've been workin with Dre for the past 2 years, his production is great and it helped me to create a mood for Relapse, but... this beat is fantastic, I'm going to use it on a Proof tribute. oh, this one? good, that's going to be on my first single. I like this one too, let's call Pink for a powerful hook on this one"

Did Em actually had the power to choose the instrumentals for Recovery? Dude has good ear for beats, look what he chose during 1999-2009

All I can say is. 2010 Em went crazy cus Relapse wasnt a huge success. So then he sort of changed to what the game was doing (rap in general). Recovery helped him gain popularity. And now he is back to just doing whatever he wants (MMLP2 is a huge improvement!) and now Em is back. Idk if that makes sense.

i don't believe anybody told Eminem what to make or that he lacked creative control. i do, however, believe he made Recovery specifically in hopes that it would be a commercial success.

People need to stop acting like Eminem can do no wrong and would never compromise, and that it was Interscope who forced him to. Denaun and 50 both said he wanted to be liked again.

I also find it pathetic how passionate you (Raul that is) are about hating Recovery with every fiber of your body. There's been enough threads that are nearly identical to this.

He pretends to hate it so passionately because he doesn't want to be known as the guy who likes both of the albums Eminem fans considered the weakest ones.

I fuck with the production on Recovery; I've always thought the raw, unfinished sound of some of the beats complimented the passionate nature of the lyrics quite nicely.
I'd always thought it was intentional.
I didn't think they sounded actually shitty, so much as un-polished and, I dunno, underproduced.

Not really, TRex. Other threads about Recovery talk about the female hooks, or the beats, or the subject matter, or the delivery.

In this one I'm specifically wondering about Eminem's power of decision and if he did himself the choices that made the album go in that particular direction.

And Melanie, I don't feel ashamed of liking Encore, so I don't think your point sustains itself.

He was obviously satisfied with it. Pretty sure he had a lot of input. He obviously liked it enough to still perform songs from it. I mean, he barely does songs from encore or relapse.

Songs with Dre's beats most of the times are Eminem's one of the strongest points. Eminem just fucking around with Dre's beats as next album would be awesome.
