I feel like Em's writing was better on LTWYL. They're both pretty good radio songs. I dig the 3rd verse of Monster tho, that way back/Russell Wilson scheme sounds nice even though the opening couple of bars are ehhh "regulahhhhhh civilian"

Catchy chorus sung by a huge music star collaborating with another huge music star. This was no "shot in the dark." They knew it was going to be a hit.

And we know that Em had a lot more to say when the 3rd verse was ending:

He HAD to finish the verse, stopping his stream of consciousness.

I'd say he chose the right time to end that verse. It would have been hard to continue the A-B rhyme patterning he was doing without it sounding too forced. It doesn't really feel like an abrupt end at all, nor does it sound like he wanted to say more in that verse. "Nothin, I'm still" going with the previous scheme, and "friends with the" going with "messenger" was also nicely done.

I enjoyed The Monster on my first listen tbh but then I realized it was awfully poppy and thought it didn't belong on MMLP 2 but then the music video saved the song for me

I still get pissed about Rihanna though, Em picked her to be on his last two albums and the two songs they did were HUGE. Rihanna should have at least returned the favor on her own album and not given Em the opportunity to be on a throwaway Numb track.
