The Daily Express reports that Manchester United are close to signing Roma’s Mehdi Benatia for a fee of €38m.
The Giallorossi defender was one of Rudi Garcia’s star performers in the club’s second place finish last season and has attracted the attention of several of Europe’s top clubs this summer.
Now, according to the English newspaper, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is confident of landing the Moroccan as he looks to increase his defensive options.
Though United are said to be at the head of the queue for Benatia, it appears they will face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid for his signature.
