Eminem's best year? 2002.

Postby OutlawƎ » Aug 14th, '14, 00:03

2002 was just perfect.
He released The Eminem Show, which is regarded by many people to be either his best or second best album.
Without me was a huge hit and he won 4 VMA's for it (if I'm not mistaken)
He was the biggest star in the WORLD when 8 mile came out, just watch his TRL appearance where he promotes the movie :flutter:
He released the 8 mile soundtrack which contains so much AMAZING material from Em including my all time favourite song - Lose Yourself
He murdered everything he was on and put out amazing diss tracks (Nail in the coffin; The Sauce :worship: )
TES was also the best selling album of the year
MMLP
TES
MMLP2
SSLP
Relapse
Recovery
Encore
Infinite

2002 was definitely his most successful year as an artist. He could do no wrong.

2002 was his zenith, and he could do no wrong. 2004 hit and he released the critically disappointing D12 World and Encore, then personal issues messed him up big time in the couple years to come. 2009 he tried to switch tactics, but that got mixed opinions from listeners. By 2010, Recovery was commercially successful, but some longtime listeners weren't buying it. He seems to be gaining his stride again with MMLP2.

I agree. I also think that you can see this during the TRL interview in late 2002 when Carson notifies him as having the #1 movie, #1 album & #1 single on the planet. Eminem looks to the times square crowd and is lost for words. A very scary level of fame to reach I'm sure.

The success of 2002 is maybe the reason why he was addicted to drugs in 2003 .
it was too much for him .

My guess at what he's thinking during that interview: "Fuck this bullshit. I'm going to go home and hide for six years."

Plus he was doing a lot--appearances, concerts, and recording a movie was probably the biggest factor. I believe that is when he got addicted to sleeping pills?

Pretty much.
Recovery era's a not so close second.
11(?) Grammy noms, including AOTY and ROTY, 2 Billboard #1's, broke a shit ton of records, plus 2 Emmys (I think).
If it wasn't for 8 Mile and the Oscar, 2010 would have had it.
