Eminem and the "funny singles"

Postby Raul » Sep 3rd, '14, 09:38

Was bumping Without Me a minute ago and the thought of "Eminem will never make a Guess Who's Back type of single again" make me somehow sad. Ok, the man is almost 42, but I think he could still pull it off a funny single without seeming forced.

Look at MMLP2. The 'tongue-in-cheekness' is there on Brainless, Asshole (just two examples). So I think that with a catchy beat (Dre, Eminem, anyone), Em could make a funny single without seeming weird. I wouldn't look at him like "Oh, man, he is too old for this shit, because, like I said, look at MMLP, look at Calm Down, look at Twerk Dat Pop That. He could easily do a guess who's back type of single perfectly.

Thread was made because of that line in Guts Over Fear too.

He really needs to go back. U know in Berzerk he called out guys like Lamar Odom and Kid Rock, but he did it in such a playful way. Like he said, he makes playful songs that he makes for fun. LOL Kid Rock is his friend and didn't give a hoot, he even showed up on the video! God dam, what ever happened to Em? Do you think he's actually scared now to attack people, cuz he doesn't want to risk his reputation?

Talking bad about people isn't the thing which makes a song funny.. He can do a lot of other stuff to make a track sound fun :)

maybe it's a shot at wayne. "I ain't called anybody (weezy f) baby since birdman unless you're a swallow". so if he calls you baby, you're a swallow - either a bird(man) or a woman, gay, lil wayne or some combination of the three

Bezerk felt more like an emulation than genuinely one of his comedic lead singles. He was recreating the style and feel of one through the video of it but the song doesn't have that same sorta vibe. If bezerk existed sans video i would hardly compare it to, say a without me or a real slim shady.
...the only problem was, my english teacher was a guy...

I think berzerk had exactly the right vibe, the sub par second verse was what made it not as good IMO.
But I dont think he was aiming to make it sound like his old shit to begin with. I do like Without Me and The Real Slim Shady, and I wouldnt mind another one comedic in tone, but idk if I would want the whole celebrity bashing thing to encompass an entire song. Id like another song akin to Berzerk, with all the verses as strong as the first and without the weird vocal effects that were in the first verse.
" Life can change your directions, even when you ain't planned it
All you can do it handle it, worst thing you can do is panic
Use it to your advantage, avoid insanity manage
To conquer, every obstacle, make impossible possible
Even when winning illogical, losing is still far from optional.." -T.I.
