Why didnt the monster sound this emotional?

Postby ImmyKillEM » Sep 11th, '14, 20:38

The track itself seems so bland and forced but when Em and Rih did it live at MTV it sounded intense as fuck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSADiw2wNKw

At first I didn't know if you were being serious. Then I saw that it was you who posted it.

now you know the post wasn't serious. Relapse Era performances were pretty cringeworthy.

I think the studio version of this song needs to be more atmospheric, idk maybe a guitar that actually sounds like it's being played. Maybe it's just me but I've been to 2 of his concerts with the live band and they can make songs sound phenomenal with real instruments, makes me wonder what all of his songs would sound like played with real instruments.

There are some crying guitars in the live performances and they made the song really better.

This is exactly what I was thinking, it could make an album much more cohesive if he kept a consistent instrumental sound throughout. Maybe he should do this for his last album, make it haunting with the instruments and dramatise it, if he has musicians like his band he performs with behind him what could go wrong? Would be the best send off in my opinion.

StayWideAwake wrote:It might end up sounding busy as fuck like the Wont Back Down beat. Image

I think that song sounds much better performed live, couldn't exactly get much worse :shifty:
but yeah they don't always have to be rock anthems and have to fight against the beat to get his voice heard.

StayWideAwake wrote:Survival, Berzerk, So Far and Rhyme or Reason all have "live instrument" sounds. Even the strings in the Groundhog Day beat sound natural. I wouldn't want it for all of his songs though. There's a time and place for everything. I do wish those awesome drums on the outro of The Monster were in all of the choruses though.

Obviously it isn't going to sound great on every song but songs like The Monster I feel like they should be more haunting less poppy sorta feel to it. Them songs you listed I feel like are some of Eminem's best post-comeback, especially Rhyme or Reason and Groundhog Day. Even Survival is a million times better than Won't Back Down. I just think if he implemented more real instruments into his music it would sound much better and he seems to be at his best with them.

To say it briefly bring back the Bass Brothers.
