The flows you hear on on MMLP2 didn't require lots of editing/rewrites because he was forcing words/syllables into awkward places to fit whatever pattern he was trying to do.

"So there's nothin' for me to fallbackon"

The 3rd verse of So Far is a great example of where his lines alternated between being too short or too long for the tempo and he had to dance around to make it fit.

You're entitled to prefer that if you'd like, but it kills me when the meaning and feel of poignant writing becomes completely buried in Eminem's forced flows.

That's equally as frustrating/annoying/"sloppy" as Em cramming in "I'm not gonna be able to top a My Name Is" or his closing bars on "Say Goodbye Hollywood".
I don't understand, what's wrong with any of these?
Menzo wrote:I feel like sometimes people think that if Em isn't rapping straight through with an "unbroken" flow and does a choppy or bit of a stutter than it's cuz he's trying to cram or fit words in as opposed to a stylistic choice.
right I really feel like it's what he wanted to sound like going into it, and if it wasn't it wouldn't have made the cut. Em's too much of a perfectionist, especially lately.

that said, can I get a clear definition of what you guys mean when you say "forced" flows? because it sounds like you're just referring to sped-up syllables to stay on beat, which is the point of speed in the first place. so would this be considered a forced flow? because i'm referring to this. verses with bars whos syllables do not align whatsoever and it seems as if it was written and recorded acapella and then just had a beat thrown over it.

When he delivers "gonna be," he rushes it so it sounds more like two syllables than three.

He doesn't stress the first syllable of "gonna" as he ought to. It's a force.

The ending to the Say Goodbye Hollywood verse was kind of awkward. Nobody said Prime Eminem didn't slip up occasionally. He did it much less frequently than he does now, though.

Not true. Much of The Way I Am is forced writing, and that's been pointed out before.

There was obviously a sense of satisfaction which only makes me think those moments we perceive as slip ups were actually just...purposeful. Just unappealing, lol.

I guess "slip-up" is the wrong word because it implies he's not doing this stuff by choice, and he is.

But he chooses to do this because he thinks that because he was able to convey exactly how he feels on paper, or because his wordplay is clever, he can sacrifice things like proper pronunciation, proper alignment, and proper emphasis of syllables. He doesn't realize that getting all these things wrong actually softens the impact of what he's saying, when you're listening. His personal songs don't hit or move listeners like they used to for this reason.

I still don't understand what's wrong with the sacrifice. A lot of people prefer more things to rhyme than not, so if he has to alter the pronunciation or syllabic emphasis to make that happen it's fine as far as I'm concerned. So long as I can understand what he's saying of course.

how so?

I've been listening to Em since SSLP, none of his music has moved me more than the post-MMLP2 work. Now, that may be because I was 10 when TES happened and didn't have the emotional capacity I have now, but I don't think it'd make a difference regardless.
