Do You Think Censorship Is Effective?

Postby TheWeirdoIsBack » Jan 7th, '07, 22:04

I ask because I'm doing a report and an online poll might help. Reason not necessary unless you want to leave one. It might help me a bit more. Thanks everyone in advance!

it works, because its done for kids, they should get an idea of what kind of words are wrong to use, and reminded that they are wrong to use.

When they grow up theyll know the words and will be free to exersise the words at their own intent.

It can be effective when kids are listening to it. If they are not used to hearing the words that are censored then they'll think nothing of it.

It doesn't work when kids know the lyrics or the specific words, it'll be up to them if they wish to use the words. But at least it reinforces that some words are not acceptable in some situations.

clear channel's doing it by censoring what we can listen to on the radio. almost every station in the U.S. plays the same freakin' garbage and now has ppl saying the 'lil' / 'young' and '-y' rappers are the best in the game. they're the ones who killed hip-hop. (which btw isn't dead. it's just hidden)

so yea, censorship is effective

In a word, no.

Because even if you bleep the word fuck, people still know that the person is saying fuck.

Censorship is going way over the top, hip hop videos may as well be instrumentals with all the words they take out!

i agree, they'll learn in kindergarten or whatever - i don't think they learn from censorship what words to use or not, it's the parents' job to teach them that

i'm not really sure about censorship, i do think some words should be bleeped out, like really bad expletives... but words like fuck and shit, c'mon everybody uses them, it's ridiculous with all the bleepin bleeps :D

no, I'm pretty sure it just doesn't work, people will search on for (for example) the music without the cencored parts, and then it's over

It works, what grade do most kids start swearing? Maybe round middle school, it's because they were censored from the words. Obviously it's up to the parents if censorship will work, because they ultimately control the environment the child is brought up in. But it's obvious censorship works, it's been done for years and is still going on. Not only in music but everywhere. How long was it before we heard about priest sexual abuse? Theres people trying to file claims from 20+ years ago.

like if i ever have kids i dont care if they're "exposed" to graphic material. i dont wanna shelter them from the real world and to some extent thats what censorship does. I still dont get why words are forbidden on tv, they cant bite you or nothin.
