viruses?

i got a computer that my uncle gave me and ok um, it has a virus how do i get it off cuz i have some music on the windows media player that i wanna put onto my ipod and i cna't get into it cuz everytime i start my computer up it keeps on restarting itself an i don't wanna throw it away.

does it restart BEFORE you can even do anything on the pc? because if that is the case, I can't help you out, you should go to a store, they might help you out.

well, ill turn ont he cmoputer and then it says windows XP (with the blue bar) and then right then it'll restart iself, i can't get into windows

u cud try loggin in on safe mode but im not sure if u know how....otherwise like steve said your gonna need to re-install windows...youll need the xp disc which came with your pc.

do u hav the windows version sticker on the bak of ya pc??? cus if u contact windows and tell em u lost ur cds...they will ask for the code of the back of the sticker....they MIGHT send u out the discs agen.

yea oh use a boot up disket
and put ur music to another partition

yea im not so good at computers but it needs a format i guess n after it ud better use an antivirus programme..

nah wrong sticker...the sticker should be blue/white and green color....its says wut windows version u got aswell as the serial for ur windows copy.That is of course if u used a legal copy of windows....hav anotha look u mite not hav noticed it b4

soon as it starts up, press F8 (i think its F8) and you should be able to boot it into safe mode, ive not done this in ages so i forgot alot of stuff about it.

once you're in safe mode, scan your pc with AVG-FREE or whatever you have, just make sure whatever you use picks it up and deletes it, once deleted just carry on as usual and restart in normal mode.

its F11 for my computer to get into safe mode, but i'm not sure if its the same for every com.

yeah i just havnt done that whole thing in a while, i dont need to cos my comps never infested with nothin

but yeah just tap F11 then your gonna get safe mode which will probably look odd at first but its only gonna look that way in safe mode cos everythings gonna get disabled to allow you to find & delete the virus
