The Truth Bout Lebron

Postby Chino562 » Feb 24th, '07, 06:50

To LeBron James, who coasted through the Skills Challenge on All-Star Saturday and played the All-Star Game with the uplifting, charismatic intensity of a female porn star trying to break one of those "most male partners in one afternoon" records. Could we end up putting him in the "Too Much, Too Soon" Pantheon some day? Will he become the basketball version of Eddie Murphy, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and every other celeb who became famous too quickly and eventually burned out?

LeBron James
Mark J. Terrill
Before he before becomes a global icon, maybe LeBron should work a little harder on his game.

Here's what I know. I had four conversations with connected NBA people over the weekend that centered around the same themes: LeBron isn't playing nearly as hard as he did last season; it looks like his only goal right now is to get his coach fired; he's regressing as a basketball player (especially his passing skills and his shot selection); he made a huge mistake firing his agent and turning his career over to his buddies back home (all of whom are in over their heads); he was a much bigger problem during the Olympics than anyone realized; he doesn't seem to be enjoying himself anymore; he has an overrated sense of his own worth and his own impact in the sports world (as witnessed by the ESPN interview last week when he answered the "What are your goals?" question with two words: "Global icon"); he's been protected by magazine fluff pieces and buddy-buddy TV interviews for far too long; he doesn't have the same relentless drive to keep dominating everyone like Wade and Kobe have; and basically, we're much closer to LeBron re-enacting the career arc of Martina Hingis, Eric Lindros and Junior Griffey than anyone realizes. This will evolve into THE dominant NBA story of the next two months. You watch.

I think its a load of sh!t - the guy is like 22/23 now? most players have just come out of college ball and into the nba. People already looking for chances to take him down. Its stupid pricks like the people who wrote this article who undermine the confidence of these players/artists(micheal jackson/britney) and place doubt in the minds of their fans which ultimatelly leads to a disbelief in this case, of LeBron's capabilites. How can the man be expected to play good ball when he has the constant impression that people think he is playing worse and comparing him to previous years. Do people even take into consideration that he has suffered from a few injuries this season which would in fact, just possibly... putting it out there... be linked to his performance? Perhaps if we werent so eager to smash and discredit people who have worked their ass off to be where they are like LeBron, Micheal Jackson, Britney and even artists like Jay-Z and Ja Rule (who have received a lot of negative feedback like they didnt deserve to be where they are) we wouldn't see these so called slumps in play.
For anyone who didnt know LeBron's mother had him when she was 16 = the kid probably didnt grow up with much chance of goin anywhere in life, now he wants to achieve something that probably looked statistically impossible everyone seems to want to charge him down and take everything he has worked for.
tbh i just cant quite word how much things like this pisses me off...

It's just more stupid people trying to hate on Lebron. So what if he's not doing as good as he did last year, he's still playing good basketball. I mean he's avg more ast, stl, rebounds, blk, and he has a better FG% than Kobe Bryant. So if he's doing better than Kobe in all those categories I guess Kobe is falling off too. Just face it people are just expecting Lebron to have unheard of years and nobody can do that. Cleveland is still winning games with lebron leading them and thats whats important.

And what i was saying is how can you expect him to play well with the sort of crap he has to take from people like this always trying to doubt him. The whole 'LBJ' thing is starting to wear off now so i wouldnt be suprised if he starts playing his best ball soon

but you have to consider that all sports require a strong state of mind. Motivation levels could easily be linked to why he is under performing - obviously he is still young so he probably hasnt had the experience in dealing with the industry getting onto him. Like i mentioned before, id say that he will start to perform better soon, assuming his team starts to get back into form too :P
