Help your two favorite asians with math AGAIN

Postby Hunneh_Buns » Mar 5th, '07, 03:20

Hunneh Buns math problem:

A census-taker stopped at a lady's house and wanted to find out how many children she had. The lady, a math teacher, wanted to see if the census-taker still knew his math.

Census-taker: "How many children do you have?"
Lady: "Three"
Census-taker: "How old are they?"
Lady: "The product of their ages is 36."
Census-taker: "Well, that's just not enough information."
Lady: "The sum of their ages is out house number"
Census-taker looks at the house number thinking this clue would give it away, but says: "Still not enough information."
Lady: "My oldest child plays the piano."
Census-taker: "AHA! Now I know. Thank you."

What are the ages of the children? Show how the census-taker figured it out. Start out by writing down three ages and then apply the rules.

That's all the information it gives you.

And there are 4 numbers in my house number  But I don't think that matters

well if u have 5 8 9 then the answer is 360, but if u have 12 14 8 then the answer is 1344. so it matters on what the number of digits are. but it looks like its a trick question, cuz how the hell would u figure it out. just write down three numbers, and thats ur answer i guess. it says apply the rules, what fucking rules do they mean? the ones in the problem, or did u forget to type some of the info?

anywho, for the logarithm problem, just apply the logarithm properties.

when u have a number x^k, just rewrite it as k X log(2)

so for 2^ square root of seven X 2^ square root of seven, u would have

square root of seven X log(2) X square root of seven X log(2)

that can be written as 7log(2) X log(2).

thats all i know, im not sure if u can break down log(2) X log(2). its been a while since i've done it

But then it could be
1 4 9
3 3 4
2 2 9
2 3 6
1 6 6
1 3 12
