actually a greatest hits album is all his songs that did well commercial wise. those were all his songs that topped the charts, notice how every song were stuff he put out as singles. the new material was jus something that (like truemfan said) made the album go platinum cuz no ones gonna buy a c.d. with eminem material that they most likely have on differnet c.d.'s. im sure he knows what GREATEST means but do u know what HITS means? it means singles his greatest singles. meaning his greatest songs outta all his songs u sit at home watching on MTV
yeah that's right... and people should not forget that Eminem is not an independant/unsigned artist... he must please Interscope... and clearly, the greateats hits album wasn't made for his die hard hip hop fans, but more for the general audience, the pop fans who likes his music... so he added songs that the pop audience would like, like Fack and Shake That... and When I'm Gone which was a good all-around song... and Eminem said himself that he didn'T think the songs on this album are his best, and he decided to add a bonus disc with the songs he thought were some of his best... maybe the biggest mistake he made was to let down his diehard hip hop fans and not include a new serious rap song for the Stan mixtape... like No Apologies or Public Ennemy #1 (which were probably recorded at that time)
and I think it's funny how some people said "he fell off" after hearing the new tracks on Curtain Calls, and after the Re-Up was released, some people said "he's back!"... I wouldn't be surprised if all those songs were made during the same period of time... it's just that depending on what audience is aimed with a specific album, he (and/or Interscope) must choose songs that will please the aimed audience (CC> general/pop audience... re-up> rap fans)
cause like it or not, Eminem has probably more fans that like pop music than fans that like rap music... so no matter what he does, chances are he'll dissapoint a lot of his fans... so it's kinda unfair to judge him, when you're not in his position...
moral of the story: people should stop caring that much about every moves Eminem makes... personally, when he releases a great song, I listen to it and enjoy it... when he releases a song that I don't like, I just ignore it... as simple as that!
sorry for the long post, it's been a while since I discussed about Eminem, and I wanted to do it
