^ No, you've got that wrong, of course Em knew Elton was gay when they did the show, that was the whole point to it - to prove that Em isn't a homophobic like he's been accused of. Em might not have known or thought about that Elton was gay before all these allegations about his lyrics being homophobic, but after Elton defended Em in the media against the accusations he learned about it and that's when the whole idea of him performing with Elton came about.

And as several ppl have already pointed out in this thread the performance wasn't a surprise to the audience - it was supposed to be, but the media found out - there are several pre-show interviews with different ppl saying how much they're looking forward to it.

In YBR it's definitely bitch, but I think it's fuckin bitch. It's the way he leads up to it "No matter what coulor a girl is, she's still a fuckin bitch. It just matches the rhythm better, and it's the way he would say it. And of course it fades out intentionally, that's the whole irony, he's always said that about women, but I think it's fair to say that people don't think he really thinks that.

I've also heard that, but then I think why would he randomly perform with elton john??? I dunno what the truth is. I've herd in intervies that em didnt no, but then iv herd in other interviews that he didnt so...

Em doesn't say in this interview "I didn't know Elton was gay when we did the show" - he's indicating he supposedly didn't know anything about Elton's personal business before Elton made the statements supporting him. The key here is this exact line: but being that he was gay and he had my back,

Now, if you read that line carefully in the context of the rest of Em's statement, it shows that Em allegedly didn't know Elton was gay before Elton made the statements where he said he supported Em and those statements were made before the Grammys - that's why Em wanted to perform with Elton, what better way to shut up your critics than to perform with a confessed homosexual?

I thought about pointing out in my post that it seemed totally ridiculous that Em supposedly didn't know Elton was gay, there's no way he could be that clueless (on the other hand we're talking about a guy who thinks england lies in london soo...), but I didn't wanna make matters more complex - anyway i saw that interview too n ur absolutely right, it definitely seemed as if he was joking but then again you can never really tell with him
bottom line is he certainly knew well before the show since that was the whole point of doing it
