The track would be pointless if the last verse was recorded a while ago, the fact it's recent brings the old verses up to date with the last new verse to test himself and show that he still has it. No Apologies is the first serious emotional track since When I'm Gone, I'm sure he knows we want more so King Mathers or whatever the album will be called, he'll deliver.
I disagree. Does no one remember the Re Up commercial on MTV that said "including a previously unreleased track?" It was obviously recorded during a 2001 session since when he freestyled the verses he said "No Apologies", which suggests to me it was a done track. The third verse is the only thing debatable imo and ppl use things like he says the word mourning and mentions cartoon tats. personally i'm not convinced at all by either of those arguments since "mourning" is just used as a throwaway word to complete a rhyme and doesn't seem to be speaking on proof at all and the whole cartoon tats were getting A LOT more press back in 2001 than they ever have in the last 5 years. no one bugged him about the proof tat cartoon did. another thing ppl say is how come we've not heard the last verse before like we have the first two...well, maybe he just never bothered or never needed to bother spitting it in a freestyle session. just cuz he didn't "freestyle" it doesn't mean it didn't exist back then.
as for the voice argument...i dont hear it, sounds old to me. there may be a slight difference between the first two verses and the third but it's minor and doesn't mean anything to me. there are a number of songs where his voice changes slightly from verse to verse.
it doesnt sound re-recorded to me either, if anything it almost sounds like it was never fully mastered. we might never know for sure but imo the whole thing is from a year 2001 recording session. I'd like to see some definitive proof either way.
