Did eminem have a lot of underground hype?

Unfortunately Em had no underground hype. He was always the statue of laughter and mockery. When he tried to slang his Demo's and do local shows, he was always percecuted and accused of mocking hip-hop. They called him the next Vanilla Ice and nothing near "hip-hop icon." Kid Rock had a lot of hype though... a lot more then Em in the Detroit area
