Since I'm in a position to talk to these kids and they listen
I ain't no politician but I'll kick it with 'em a minute
Cause see they call me a menace; and if the shoe fits I'll wear it
But if it don't, then y'all'll swallow the truth grin and bear it
Now who's these king of these rude ludicrous lucrative lyrics
Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics
Usin' his music to steer it, sharin his views and his merits
But there's a huge interference - they're sayin you shouldn't hear it
Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit
Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish
But I'm debated disputed hated and viewed in America
as a motherfuckin drug addict - like you didn't experiment?
Now now, that's when you start to stare at who's in the mirror
and see yourself as a kid again, and you get embarrased
And I got nothin' to do but make you look stupid as parents
You fuckin do-gooders - too bad you couldn't do good at marriage!
(Ha ha!) And do you have any clue what I had to do to get here I don't
think you do so stay tuned and keep your ears glued to the stereo
Cause here we go - he's {*Jigga joint Jigga-chk-Jigga*}
And I'm the sinister, Mr. Kiss-My-Ass it's just the

can someone explain this verse, people keep saying there metas and literal shit and shit, but i cant find them .

to be honest I don't I see any metas/literal stuff in that verse (there are probably some that I just don'T get lol), but damn that has to be one of Em's best verse... just when you read the lyrics out loud you sound like a genius yourself lol... but I think the people talking about the metas and literal stuff are referring to the second verse...

the way I see it, he's talking about all the people, the critics, talking about the bad influence he has on kids/people and he's just saying that: "maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit"... basically just saying that his lyrics have meanings and it's "food for the spirit" when you take the time to pay attention and really listen to them :y:

well this is what i think it says

See I'm a poet to some, a regular modern day Shakespeare -- he's shit is poetic if you look deep
/* Jesus Christ the King of these Latter Day Saints here
To shatter the picture in which of that as they paint me
as a monger of hate and Satan a scatter-brained atheist *\ -- he says he trys to fit in, but they paint a wrong image of what he really is
But that ain't the case, see it's a matter of taste -- its just an opinion
We as a people decide if Shady's as bad as they say he is -- the people/his listeners decide if he's lyrics are actually literal
Or is he the latter - a gateway to escape? -- he, eminem, does his music bring you an escape to the life?
Media scapegoat, who they can be mad at today -- he's just a rapper who's famous and people like to point fingers at him
See it's easy as cake, simple as whistlin Dixie
while I'm wavin the pistol at sixty Christians against me -- he's fighint back with everyone going aginst him
Go to war with the Mormons, take a bath with the Catholics
in holy water - no wonder they try to hold me under longer
I'm a motherfuckin spiteful, DELIGHTFUL eyeful
The new Ice Cube - motherfuckers HATE to like you - people hate to admit they like eminem, which is very much true.
What did I do? (huh?) I'm just a kid from the gutter
makin this butter off these bloodsuckers, cause I'm a muh'fuckin -- he's only trying to make a living from rapping

but yea the whole catholic and christian thing there i don't get...

Ill make multis bold, and ill outline each rhyme in a colour so they can be more obvious. i didnt outline the normal rhymes, just the multis

Since I'm in a position to talk to these kids and they listen
I ain't no politician but I'll kick it with 'em a minute

Hes saying that the kids love him n stuff so he can express his opinion to them, good intro to the song

Cause see they call me a menace; and if the shoe fits I'll wear it
But if it don't, then y'all'll swallow the truth grin and bear it

People say he has a bad influence but hes gonna basically say screw their talk

Now who's these king of these rude ludicrous lucrative lyrics
Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics
Usin' his music to steer it, sharin his views and his merits

Describing why people like his music and how it is - ludicrous and lucrative...etc

But there's a huge interference - they're sayin you shouldn't hear it

Saying altho his music is deep critics/others are saying the kids shouldnt hear it

Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit
Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish

Describing different people's opinions about his music. some people think it causes hatred, some think it relieves whats inside them (food for the spirit)

But I'm debated disputed hated and viewed in America
as a motherfuckin drug addict - like you didn't experiment?

Saying how some people/critics think of him, but then justifying his point when saying "like you didnt experiment?"

Now now, that's when you start to stare at who's in the mirror
and see yourself as a kid again, and you get embarrased

Referring to the lines before when he was justifying himself, "like you didnt experiment?" and saying that when people listened to that rhyme they thought like damn hes right. so they stare at themselves (whos in the mirror) and see themselves as kids again (when they did do drugs) and then they get embarrassed

And I got nothin' to do but make you look stupid as parents
You fuckin do-gooders - too bad you couldn't do good at marriage!

Making fun of parents like his who always talk about doing good and criticize others but themselves couldnt do good at their marriage

(Ha ha!) And do you have any clue what I had to do to get here I don't
think you do so stay tuned and keep your ears glued to the stereo
Cause here we go - he's {*Jigga joint Jigga-chk-Jigga*}
And I'm the sinister, Mr. Kiss-My-Ass it's just the

Ending of the verse, saying that people dont know about the hard work that he has done and dont appreciate it.. so basically hes like forget your criticism and keep rocking to this shit (glued to the stereo).

Finally its one of his best verse because of
1) complex rhymes (rhymes words that are hard to rhyme with each other like parents and marriage, America and experiment, spirit and cherish).
2) deeeeeeeep meanings (explained above)
3) alot of multis (outlined above)
4) his flow was perfect
5) it was on a song with jay-z on it.
"Hard hearted beast with a jaw full of meat
Engulfed in a feast while you starve at his feet
He toss you the least little portion of a piece
To the floor and expect you to rejoice when you eat" - Brother Ali

LMao, all this over-analysis is rediculous. The reason this verse got so much critical acclaim, is because of the awesome multi's, flawless flow and heartfelt on-topic lyrics. They are not deep in terms of hidden meanings or anything, just deep in terms of emotion and a conscious rap.

"Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit," just means what it says. He's saying that his lyrics are offensive and hateful to some people, but also inspirational and uplifting to others, depending on who's listening to it.

Need any further help Tash, just quote a line man.

Respect to Bazz for putting great effort into the multi pattern, but I don't think you've displayed it like it should. They shouldn't be split into different colours cos it seperates them, and the ones in black are part of the multi also, but you've excluded them like they aren't.

Multi's (These are all multi's, some don't look like they work, but said in context with Eminem's accent and the use of assonance they all become perfect rhymes.)

shoe fits 'll wear it
truth grin 'n bear it
lu....cra..tive lyrics
Who could in-herit
youth in hys-terics
mu-sic to steer it,
views 'n his merits
huge in-ter-ference
you should-n't hear it
food for the spirit
you to just cherish
viewed in Americ(a)
you didn't experi(ment?)
who's in the mirror
you get em-barrased
stu-pid as parents
Do good at marriage!
do to get here I
glued to the stere(o)

I`m not even putting in the internal rhymes in lines which really make this verse for me one of his best ever, they are not complex, but it's the "do" sound that is littered through the rhyme that just gives it an awesome sound imo. Especially this sentence, "(Ha ha!) And do you have any clue what I had to do to get here I don't think you do so stay tuned and keep your ears glued to the stereo." Really simple words, but it's the way EMinem says them that brings them to life. And it's the internal rhyme that put it up there with Lose Yourself and Till I Collapse.

Ok man, it is deep in terms of being a "real" track about himself and other peoples opinion of him, that's what is deep. But it's majestty is the lyrics, flow, internal rhymes and multi's. Everything is on beat and everything outshines what Jay-Z did in his verses. To me though his flow is always mastered, but ya some songs are better than others. When he flows to the beat exactly, I don't think there's anyone better at it.

Oh, see the black looked to me like you were excluding them, sorry.
And thanks, wasn't doing that to make you look wrong, just to make it easier for people to see them. :)

yeah that "oo" sound is really well used... I mean it's crazy... I listened to the song yesterday and I noticed, when he says "if the shoe fits I'll wear it" and until the end of the verse, there's always an "oo" sound on the 3rd beat (like, if you count 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, there's ALWAYS an "oo" sound on the 3, except for the first 2 lines and the last 2)
