An elaborate discussion on a Rakim Statement on Em

Postby C-Game » Oct 9th, '07, 08:51

Well i recently watched Rakims views on Eminem ( thnkx to 4D )

and he said "If Em was black , he would be da next mohamad ali"

and i may be wrong but i think i hv heard these from other black rappers as well.. abt wat if eminem was black and stuff...

but em has mentioned dat coz he is white he is seliing like this...
no doubt abt dat coz he is da highest selling rapper ..period..

so wat do u think by Rakims statement as well as similar statment..

im kinda confused is wat can Em achive more if he was black...

he's just comparing.

he could have said "he is the white mohamad ali" but for anyone to get compared to ali they would most likely be black, not a racists view of it thats just how it is, so he saying that.

like goin "if c-game was a chick he'd be a bigger slut than pamela anderson" :p

aint to much to elaborate on imo

Im pretty sure he means: Even though em may have sold many records because of his color, that does not deny his amazing talent. he is basically saying that em wouldnt have sold as many records if he was black but he would still get recognition and respect in the rap world. Also, I think the choice of using mohamed Ali implies that he could have been the greatest (again in the rap world) because he would have so many topics to talk about instead of just personal stuff and also be able to get black people to relate to what he is saying because the experiences would be somewhat similar. If you listen carefully to the interview you will notice that Rakim was trying to say that em could very much have been the best if he was black because he would have had more freedome to discuss the topics he cant when he is white and because he would gain more vibe because his music would be more meaningfull.

if he was black, everyone would have compared him to rakim, nas ect. more than they did when he came out, the one thing that made him different was he was white, so he was creating his own image, he wasnt just "another black rapper who got sick controversial lyrics" he was this "white guy with blonde hair with sick controversial lyrics" , again though its just comparing and explaining in a way people would understand.

as soon as you hear that comparison you know how highly he is respected by rakim, by knowing how highly nearly every person respeks muhamod ali

Rakim sayin that meant that black people would respect him and hold him in higher esteem than they do because he is white. He's saying if he was black that he'd "probably" be the greatest of all time (Which Is what Muhammad ALi is in Boxing). He has everything a rap superstar/legend needs and should have. He has a cool image and exudes charisma, he writes intelligent complex lyrics as well as anybody, writes groundbreaking twisted song concepts, performs them with perfection, perfect flow to any beat (Sometimes making the beat so difficult just to show this), can be humourous and entertaining, can and has being a great freestyle battler and live freestyle performer, is successful at selling records and bringing his music to massive audiences, writes deep emotional songs that can affect people and inspire them, transcends just hip-hop and gains fans of all music tastes because of some of his greatest songs, he produces most of his own stuff too, and has even produced for some of the best ever rappers like Pac, Nas and Jay-Z. Do i need to go on?

Not all of the above are even neccessary to be a great rapper or hip-hop legend, but surely when you have them all you are ahead of the bunch!

I understand what you're saying, but it's really not racist. WE are discussing a topic on Eminems impact if he was black. That's not racist, but it is about race, get me. It's racist to blatantly disregard Eminem as a great rapper just because he's white, but it's not racist to say he might be the greatest of all time if he was black. It depends on context and sometimes when things are taken out of context red lights flash and things look sketchy. But this statement by Rakim was in an interview with some asshole who was attacking Eminem, and Rakim was defending him and saying just how good he really is.

There is a lot of racism in rap though.

ya it is the fact that hes white. how many white rappers are there out there? now how many white rappers are there out there that are hella talented? very very few. its facinating to see a white man be succesful in a black mans world. its facinating to see a black man succeed in a white mans world. take borack obama for example. he could be the first african american president. thats definately interesting stuff. black people arent rilly anything us white dudes can relate to, especialy reguarding rap music. thats why we arent into it as much. eminem raps bout shit that like a majority of causcasian kids can relate to. and hes more controversial. what black rapper has rapped about rapin his mom and shit and made a whole song screamn about killin his wife?
