you won't get a good quality guitar for $100 unless you happen to come across a great deal on a used one.
also, what kind do you plan on getting? electric or acoustic? and what brand and all?

are you planning to play it live or plug into your comp? cause if you play it live you'll need an amp. not sure how it'd sound if you plug it directly into your comp though

I would suggest buying one in a local music store.. this way if you have problems with it it'll be easier then returning the guitar through mail and stuff... plus if you buy more than just the guitar (like an amp, a tuner, or a strap etc...) they might charge you less... and you'll be able to try the guitars there and see which one you prefer

but if you absolutely want to buy it online, it's cool too... just don't forget the shipping fees... some site might pay for shipping, but others might not...

wait...do you know how to play guitar yet?

and as mart said, a local shop would be better since you'll get to try it out and see what it sounds like (all sound different) and just an overall feel for it.

and just use the phone book to look it up...or i guess the internet if you want.

you should at least learn keyboard chords before you get into guitar, its like jumping in the deep end with a ton weight tied on you. im just learning chords and shit in college now and trust me guitar aint something you can just pick up.

you should by some books check out some websites and get a real basic understanding before you shell out the money for it.
