“I felt like it's my time to shine, I have to rip this. At that time, I felt that it was a life or death situation.” Not sure exactly when this was, but i`m guessing it's either at the rap olympics or when meeting with Dre.

“We just kept moving back and forth because my mother never had a job. We kept getting kicked out of every house we were in. I believe six months was the longest we ever lived in a house.” Eminem on the hardships of moving around all the time.

“I think my first album opened a lot of doors for me to push the freedom of speech to the limit.” EMinem on his first album.

“My father? I never knew him. Never even seen a picture of him.” On his relationship or lack of with his father.

“Why is it so hard for people to believe that white people are poor?! I wouldn't say I lived in a ghetto, I'd say I lived in the 'hood. The same friends I had back then are the same people on tour with me now.” Eminem on his background.

“"Success is my only motherfucking option, failure's not” From Lose Yourself, ideal for the point you're making, and his determination when he was starting to make something out of himself.

“All my life I've been dealing with my race because of where I grew up [Detroit] and being in the rap game. I'm at a boiling point...Anybody who pulls the race card is getting it right back in their face.” On dealing with racial issues.

"I don't like to give the sob story: growing up in a single-parent home, never knew my father, my mother never worked, and when friends came over I'd hide the welfare cheese. Yo, I failed ninth grade three times, but I don't think it was necessarily 'cause I'm stupid. I didn't go to school. I couldn't deal." .- On his early education

"I mean I got jumped, fucked up shit happened to me a few times, but that happens to everybody. I don't think it has anything to do with color or any of that shit. It's just all a part of growing up." - On growing up in the hood

"There were times when friends had to buy me fuckin' shoes!" - Being on welfare

"Some asshole kept throwing oranges and other fruit at me while I was onstage. Fucker had an arm like a major league pitcher..." - About one of his concerts

"Never take ecstasy, beer, baccardi, weed, pepto bismol, vivarin, tums, tagamet hb, xanax, and valium in the same day. It makes it difficult to sleep at night." - Drugs

"There was a while when I was feeling like, 'Damn, if I'd just been born black, I would not have to go through all this'." - On his race

There's some for ya Tash, most are about his upbringing, but you can use them as relevant too, just to show what he was trying to get away from. ;)

thanks a lot

“"Success is my only motherfucking option, failure's not” From Lose Yourself, ideal for the point you're making, and his determination when he was starting to make something out of himself.

this one would work well, but i'd probably need another quote of him explaining how he worked hard.

cause the point i'm getting across, or trying to, is that the poor are responsible for helping themselves, and thee way they help themselves is thru hard work.

so here is what i think my openining sentence would be

As rapper, Eminem, once said "Success is my only option, failure's not." Expressing his determination to succeed.

but i think another qoute would be needed to suffice with that.

thanks again 4d. really helped a lot!

He talks about it sometimes in his lyrics man, he has a line in a song about his mother laughin at him rappin in his room, he has a line in "The Sauce" about him saving up his own money to make cd's and selling them out of his trunk. The quotes are there man, just a matter of doing the research. ;)

Edit: Hard work has differne t meanings, in music it's different than hard physical labour. Eminems hard work, was beating racism, prejudice and just having the determination and grit to keep motivated. That's why I posted the racism quotes.

Man, that shit is on "Nail In The Coffin".

2 Tash8: use them old songs like "Rock Bottom" or "If I Had", also "Nail In The Coffin". There is many of good quotes you need.
Ted Bundy did it, John Gasey did it, Jeffery Dahmer did it, Jim Baker did it, Jimmy Swaggart did it, Lil Rick did it... And why me can't do it? :confusion:
