Encore. The breakdown!

I too am tired of defending Encore. I've a friend who just hates the album although he is crazy about "The Eminem Show".
1. People expected too much from him on Encore cerntainly after his performance in the previous multi-platinium albums. Even with the fact that Em didnt strive much on Encore the way he did on others, Encore still had great hits with tight-productions from both him and Dre.
2. I agree to the fact that songs like "My first Single" or One shot 2 shot" didn't size up "lyrically" to other songs like "Evil Deeds" or "Mosh", but what of if Em released only like 11 or 12 songs (besides Skits) like other artists do incl. Jay-Z .
Think abt it, it wld turn out to be a great compilation although people might wonder why 12 not 20.
3. The combination of the back-stabbing news of his retirement and the cancelled European tour only made the sales no reach the supposed figure. If Em wld have only learned from Jay-Z & announced his retirement b4 releasing Encore, he wld have gotten the best out of the album.

MOSH : One of Em's lyrically best (he brings on the same personality like he did on "White America")
EVIL DEEDS : Great collab and beat production. Sucks up listeners' ears to a soothing vibe from 3 great artists
YELLOW BRICK ROAD: One of my favourite. A well told history in the right pattern of words
ETC....theses are my views, dont get me wrong

Point 2 is a proper true. Maybe he should have cut the album down a little. It would be more respected.

How is fack a transition into a more mature Eminem?

His first three albums were better than Encore. Simple as that. You make like Encore more and thats fine but theres no comparison lyrically.

im not dissing any individual eminem album what im saying is , is that every eminem album has songs that are on the same level as fack,big weenie ect... but were just done in a different style to enphansize a diferent angle

there is nothing that makes the earlier albums any better than encore but encore is no better than the earlier albums, everyone has their own thought ect...

im just saying why slagg encore and say its not as good ect... than the others just cuz you personally dont like it as much

if we all liked the exact same style then music would be sooooo boring lol

His earlier albums may have featured songs that were not serious in tone but they weren't on the same level as "Fack". On "funny songs" like "I'm Shady", "My Fault", or "As the World Turns" "The Kids" "Drips" "May name Is" etc. Eminem still showed some incredible story telling skill, sarcasm and wit. And most importantly, on "tongue n' cheek" songs like "Just Don't Give a Fuck", "The Real Slim Shady" or "Without Me" he RAPS. He let's you have it. Granted, the tone and message of the songs aren't serious but as far as complxity and in the mechanical aspects of hip hop they were top notch songs.

A "song" like "Fack", "Big Weenie", "Rain Man" or "Ass Like That" takes no talent to write and Em showed little talent/skill in performing them. They aren't clever, they're just trash. The difference between Encore and his other albums is that on his old albums, even the "filler songs" Em put a lot of work, talent and skill into wirting and performing them. On Encore it's just a bunch of unenjoyabable crap with a few good songs here and there.

I agree only that we disagree. For me "few" means something like 2-3 songs, so there's only few that I don't like(Big Weenie and One Shot 2 Shot)

Honestly, to me the songs that were mentioned as garbage or whatever aren't. IMO, I see them as Em unwinding. He was pressured to write that album, there were tons of rumors of him having writers block. He'd had a shit load of stuff ridin' on him when that album dropped. He had been workin about 5 years straight...was stricken with the flu, which was confirmed on an interview he did on Z100, yet he still promoted Encore by going on SNL the very same day & so forth...he had to deal with being called a racist,& just goin' through family issues, which all began to make him crack, which he did in 2005. He knew Rain man was just a funny ass song, hence the reason he said, "I just did a whole song & I didn't say shit." With Ass like that, that wasn't intented to be him either, he was being Triumph the puppet dog. Let the man have fun jeez... He needed & still does need to relax.

You guys need to take off the rose-colored glasses. If you like Encore, and that's just your taste in music---fine I can respect that. I just think you have HORRIBLE taste then.

But if your excuse for Eminem putting out a album like Encore is that Em was "stressed" and "tired", well releasing an album is a stressful thing to do. Producing a record is hard work. That doesn't excuse putting out a trash product for your customers though.

That's like saying "Don't blame the carpenter! He was really tired and stressed!" When he fucks up your house.

I bought Encore when it came out, listened to it a few times, then after determining that it was trash I gave it away and downloaded the few songs on it I did like off the internet.

Exactly. Compare "Fack" or "Rain Man" to "As The World Turns" "My Fault" "Drips" or "Crminal."

To say it's not close in terms of lyricism, talent, and ability to write and rap Eminem showed between those songs would be an understatement.

Great
Really bad halfway through
Great again

It is this that leads me to believe he did it simply to fuck with people, or to bring back the Shady character that people asked for.
