What makes you respect it?

Postby sinemm » Feb 14th, '08, 21:38

i wanna ask a question..

i guess most of you listen to hip hop and rap music..you know the good ,the succesful & respectworthy rappers..and the contributions they did to that music ..you have favourite artists you have favourite groups-bands or whatever its called..and you adore them you respect them and love them..

-but for what? i mean what kinda rapper wins your respect? what should he do to gain it and what he shouldnt do?

-what should a music(a song) contain to be counted "precise" and "good"?

give your opinions please..

For a rapper to gain my respect, they've gotta be very lyrical, have a good flow, and have some meaningfull topics. I don't even bother listening to anyone anymore if they're just rapping about money and guns. Also, they gotta be passionate about the music business.

I wish I could explain more, but it's kinda hard to get my exact thoughts on this out right now, lol.

1. A rapper gets my respect when he/she puts out music for the world to hear his/her message not for the money.

2. When a rapper makes strong content lyrics about the struggle of life not struggle of life in the projects (so everyone else can relate).

3. When a rapper expresses his emotions about how messed up his life is, and than makes points about how good it is to be able to eat, drink, dream, love, walk, talk and hear cause for some its hard.

4. When a rapper relates to the struggle side of the world and not the industry "im in the club with my thugs shooting the place up".

5. When a rapper follows the good path of the world and not the shit side of the world for example. help people out be a good person, not kill, hurt people you don't know for no good reason.

6. When a rapper relises gangbanging is childish behaviour.

*if a rapper does any one of those things he/she will get my respect.

i really don't care how lyrical the rapper is, what gets me hooked is the topic. i like songs with emotional ties, wether it be about love, or about hate. an emotional rapper grabs me. cause then they always have a song you can relate to, feelin angry, listen to an angry song. feeling in love, listen to a love song.

for me...

To get respected you have to have earned it... for example if u got signed to a label because u were related to someone big then u automatically lose a point.

second, you gotta be somewhat lyrical... I dont care much for wordplay or multi, I'd prefer it but it doesn't want me to listen to a rapper anymore...

third, they gotta be honest, they gotta rap about something truthful rather than rap about their fake lives.. like if a guy is talkin about how it was when he was poor even though we all know his family was like the richest family alive...or for example if someone pulls a vanilla ice and completely bullshit their background...I'm fine with people talking about them being gangster, as long they actually were.

i agree with all of you in most points
talent is the most important thing i think i dont like the people who try to do this thing but actually pretty wack and thinks they're the bomb

being lyrical talking about real stuff and the issues people can get messages from or they can find something in those songs from themselves and i dont like the people who just focus on the rhymes and forget about the meaning..they seem pretty boring to me yeah rhymes multis or whatever they are called catch my eye but i should be thinking of the lines and their meanings too
and another important thing is their having a balance about their attiutes their style and their quality of music..

lyrical content...ok yeh they have a play in getting my respect, but there not the main thing.

lyrical content gets my respek because it shows effort and not just selling out so thats good.

but there are rappers who arent that lyrical (yet) but get my respect, like C-riz, for one example, why ? because he forks out his own cash to get equipment, write his own music try's his hardest to make it work, and practices to get better, im respecting what there trying to do, and with this example ill support with any help i can.

respect is also a strange thing, i mean, i can respek some artists music (scottish Rapper Respek BA) but i dont have a overwhelming respek for him as a person, coz i dont know him as a person, ive spoken to him through myspace once, and he was kool, but his tracks arent personel there lyrical/punchlines galore, so i respek the skill he has, do i respek him as a person ? i dunno, he could be a weed smoking, rapper who doesnt give a shit about anything really but is a awesome MC....

there are rappers i respect as people, coz through there music you see what they respresent what theve been through, and if your a huge fan of them you will have wanted to find out more and read articles ect. to find more out about them, there is only a few though, Jin, Sway, Akala, i respek them 3 alot, because none of them would ever sell out, Jin got f'd over by a major label and could have quit but no he just says fuck it and does it his way, releases dope music stays relevent and i respek that about him, Sway signs to konvict records, then releases a mixtape online free with seriously dope music, always reps were he's from, spreads a positive menu and i respek alot of what he stands for, and akala i respek a shitload, the guy aint just a awesome rapper he made a lif eout of music not relying on it to be his income, and doesnt need to rap he could make a living a million different ways, but doesnt he does what he does for the love of the music....lol i could go one for days so ill stop.

but i personely dont have boxes that need ot be ticked, and if the rapper does this ticks my box i respek them, i respek alot of artists Music, but as people i dunno if i respek them i dont just respek people because who they are
