A thought about "Encore"

Postby Darkblade44431 » Jul 3rd, '08, 05:28

Well, first i want to get out what tracks i thought were good or ok on the album, though nothing exceptionally good in my opinion, unlike his other albums.

For example:
I thought "The Eminem Show" had a lot of exceptionally good songs.
I thought "Slim Shady LP" had a few.
I thought "Marshall Mathers LP" had a few.
And "Encore" just didn't have anything that great.
-------------
well, here are the tracks i thought were good, and tell me if you agree(including the 3 bonus songs too).

puke
encore
love you more
we as americans
evil deeds
one shot 2 shot
spend some time

-----------------------
And the other point of this topic was to see if anyone agreed with me on the statement that he just didn't feel like he really needed to try on this because maybe he just thought that he was so damn good. And please exclude the re-up from this conversation, because i dont know, i guess that's just going for new hip hop shit. anyway, who is with me on that statement?

I was actually making a Best of Eminem playlist on my iPod a few days ago, and no Encore songs were on there, so I guess I agree with you about it not having "exceptional" songs. But it's still a solid good album for me. I don't regret buying it, and there are definitely still times when I will put it into the stereo and listen to it.

... You also didn't push Mosh on there :confusion: And I know some people might not like Mockingbird, and although it lacks complex lyrics, I think the emotion of the song makes up for that.

u dont think like toy soldiers is one of his top songs?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great song. But it's the type of song, I think, that only rap fans would truly appreciate. If a casual fan were to listen to it and not be aware of the beefs and all that shit that went on during 2003, they would not really like it. It was lacking something for me.

i dunno, i think it had everything, the emotion the lyrics, the everything... i'm not sure, what's lacking from it?

TruEmFan wrote:^ I'm not going to argue about it with you, mainly 'cause I can't really say anything about it, lol.

It's just a matter of personal preference, I guess. 'Cause for ME, it's missing something. My whole idea of the "Best of Eminem" consists of songs that I believe if a casual fan were to listen to, they would immediately just say "Wow." And I don't think LTS would get that reaction.

yea i know, i'm jsut asking what is' missing? is it the Wow thing?

TruEmFan wrote:^ Yeah, I guess so.

Compare it to other songs of Em's... like Lose Yourself or The Way I Am or Criminal or Still Don't Give A Fuck or the Fubba U Cubba Cubba Freestyle... I remember after I heard those songs, I was just :o It's not something you can define... It's that special thing in entertainment that the best artists have. I guess it's the "wow-factor."

i feel you, it's something Nas, Rakim don't have, which is why many of the times people give up on them. Eminem has it which is why he's so popular, Jay-Z has it. 2pac def has it.

=D>

Exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth.

To be a great rapper, or a great artist in general, you can't just have lyrics and hot beats. It's more than that. What amazes me is that a lot of people don't know this, when it's so blatantly obvious.

cuz when someone says somethign like that, their considered a groupie, but whatever.. shits real..

"Mosh" was a bad attempt as a political song. the message boils down to him talkin shit about Bush with no real politcal meat behind it. nothing we didn't already figure out.

alot of the other songs are done in a way that makes him seem retarded. example: "Puke". i don't particularly hate this song but it could have done in a less ridiculous.

"Big Weenie", do i need to say more?
"Rain Man", pointless.
i can live without "One Shot Two Shot"
"Encore" was mediocre yet Em wasn't a retard
"Evil Deeds" could have been good if he'd done it right but instead it sounds like a goofy retard.
"Spend Some Time", Em's verse is the only good verse on that song. so i don't bother listening cuz i have to hear through Obie's shitty verse just to listen to Em's. a plus is that Em doesn't sound retarded.
"Ass Like That", "Just Loose It." once again, need i say more?
"My First Single", pointless again.

"Yellow Brick Road", good track
"Like Toy Soldiers", good track
"Never Enough", nuetral for me. don't love it but i'll listen.
"Mockingbird", good track.

i personally like all the bonus tracks. though that still doesn't count towards the album being good because the focus wasn't supposed to be on those 3 songs.

Only tracks I didn't like was Big Weenie and My 1st Single.

Obie, Fif and Stat ruined Spend Some Time, imo.

Well, this hasn't been said before, has it?

If you like Encore, fine, but most people aren't so blinded by Stan-like devotion that they can't see he made a few shit tracks. Just Lose It, Ass Like That, Big Weenie and Rain Main were all random and stupid as hell.

Of course, the reason why seems to be that he knows "he ain't even gotta make no goddamn sense" for people to bum it.

There were pointless tracks on this. There were tracks that weren't up to his standards. There were tracks that just weren't up to rap standards in general. I think if he made this shorter and took out some shit tracks(imo), it'd be a decent album.
lmao, 50 and obie i guess did have bad verses. Especially 50, lol, "i said you have very nice lips, with my imagination, i could see her suckin my dick", god damn, what a fucking pervert. ha ha...anyways...yeh, i just think eminem thought he was so good at that point he didnt have to try anymore...no one hit on that topic, so i brought it back up.
