I give Em the respect he deserves but that's where it stops. When both Nas and Jay had colossal failures(Nastradamus - Nas, The Dynasty - Jay) failures they came back and proved everyone wrong. What distinguishes Jay/Nas from Em is longevity, they're not what they used to be but their differentiating styles kept them on top of their game.
I agree that Jay and Nas seem to be more consitent with their work, which is why they stay at the top but if you look at their discography, they have a lot more shit than Em does. Both of them have a few of what many consider classic albums (Nas - Illmatic, Stillmatic, possibly It Was Written; Jay - Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint), while Em has 3 out of his 4. And I know some people are going to disagree that The SSLP, MMLP, and TES aren't "classics," but from what I've heard generally from fans and journalists, they are. Em may not have been on a more consistent level, but he's had a longer run at the top.
You said his new album will just prove that he's not in the same category as people like Jay and Nas, but I argue that he already is, just from the past shit he's done. He's already got a spot there.
well classics or not ill just think who has more good albums ? coz its nas (i dont rate jay so wont comment)
but i get what yout talking about me n tash were actually talking about it last night, and came to the conclusion that if you compare nas and eminem from 1999 they have basicaly the same workload and ill not give my opinion on the best albums coz em got three classics and from 1999 everyone would say nas only got 1 (stillmatic) but for me as a nas fan he has 3 (stillmatic, gods son and untitled) but then again i dont think it was written was classic when generally people do, overall for me nas got 4 classics, what i mentioned and illmatic..but the one thing both me and tash agreed on was that the thing that seperates eminem from nas and jay-z is that they did not pussy out releasing a album coz they had a flop, they picked thereselves up and got back on top...eminem hasnt done this and its taking him a long time to do it if he does do it.
but before anyone hates, we also got the reason why this is (only comparing nas and eminem here), Eminem is not a concept rapper, if nothing big has happened in his life he cant go into a studio and think of a concept like, Fetus, No Idea's Original, Fried Chicken ect. coz thats not the type of rapper eminem is he is extremely personel and raps about expeirence or feeling/thoughts , he doesnt do the smart metaphor track so its harder for him to lock himself in a studio and think of dope concepts coz thats not what he's used to doin hes used to having a feeling and rapping about it (like being really pissed at alot of people so doin the way i am).
now again so no one hates, im not saying he isnt creative, he is, just listen to SSLP tracks like brain damage thats random story being creative and funny he is creative but isnt creative about smart concepts, hes creative in expressing his personel feeling and humor, and underground emienm wouldnt have a problem either coz back then he did lyrical excersice type tracks but he hasnt did one of them since bad meets evil on SSLP (i think) so thats why its most likely taking so long.
