Jonny Boy Speaks: 50, Eminem & Dr. Dre On The Way

Okay folks it’s your boy Jonny here to bring you the latest and greatest in what’s happening in hip-hop. The biggest and most exciting news is that 50, Dre, and Em have their albums ready to go, allegedly. 50’s Before I Self Destruct is set to drop in November-December, Dre’s loooooooooooong awaited Detox is supposedly coming December-January, and Eminem’s album supposedly titled The Empack will be dropping at the top of 2009. 50 is the only one with a set release date but the streets are buzzin’ hard about the other two.

The rumors flying about these three albums are crazy but it’s 50, Em, and Dre so what do you expect? Before I Self Destruct is rumored to be a monster of an album with 50 really taking it back to his GRODT days. 50 can’t be happy with the results of Curtis or Terminate On Sight so I wouldn’t be surprised at all. This album also wraps up 50’s contract with Interscope (well, this plus a greatest hits album) so it’ll be interesting to see what happens from this point on. There’s also a movie based on the album, which should be cool. People are saying it was filmed in Jer sey. I’m eager to see what 50 cooked up with this one.

As far as Detox goes, we’ve all been hearing rumors for years now. People love to connect anybody to Detox and some of the names that have been mentioned are Jay-Z, Eminem (of course), Lil’ Wayne, Bishop Lamont, Nas, and the list goes on. It’s pretty obvious that Eminem and Bishop Lamont were involved but as far as the rest go I guess we’ll have to wait and see. The Empack (alleged title) is also getting serious burn and people are claiming it to be the second coming of hip-hop. It’s Eminem and I never doubt the man. Supposed collaborators on this album are DJ Premier, Jay, and Nas. Em had put in work with Jay and Nas so that isn’t too far fetched and Primo has confirmed himself that he has been in the studio with Em.

Despite all the rumors, all I know is one thing for sure. These three dropping album is what hip-hop needs. I’m also curious to see what kind of number Em and Dre put up no win 2008. Will they keep their multi-platinum status or will they succumb to the sales slump? I’m pretty sure Em is still good for 5 mil. The Re-Up sold 3 mil and that was a compilation album. Dre? I don’t know. It’s been a minute. Are people just tired of waiting? Who knows? But I think we can at least expect numbers in the gold range first week. It is Dre though so he could pull a Lil Wayne on us and make it plat. With the release of these three albums bring back the Aftermath chokehold on hip-hop? You gotta admit, those were glorious times.

The music coming out of the camp was crazy and every album being pumped out was platinum at the very least. But it seems as if Obie is gone which foils the plan. Also, when the hell will Stat Quo, Cashis, Bobby Creekwater, and Bishop Lamont be dropping albums? These dudes have been signed forever. They should be on album number two right now. Damn this industry sucks sometimes. What pisses me off is that we’ve heard enough from all of these dudes to know that they’re hot. Stat kills beats on a regular basis. Cashis murdered his verse on “You Don’t Know”, Bishop has been involved in some serious projects such as Caltroit, and Creekwater can just spit. It’s about time for these dudes to shine.

If I was them I’d be mad as hell that I didn’t come around five years earlier. They would all have had a platinum plaque and a Bentley coupe by now. Seriously though, a lot of talent over there and I’m hoping that these three albums by Em, Dre, and Snoop respectively not only help out hip-hop but maybe open some doors for the next Generation of Aftermath. Because if Dre, Em, and 50 can push 15 million units combined, Interscope is definitely gonna be giving up some dough for the up and comers. Anyway, that’s it for this week folks. This is Jonny Boy and I’m out ‘til I’m back. Peace.

Nice read, where does he get the Eminem album expected at start of 2009 though?

I saw an error in his post:

"Seriously though, a lot of talent over there and I’m hoping that these three albums by Em, Dre, and Snoop respectively not only help out hip-hop but maybe open some doors for the next Generation of Aftermath".

Snoop instead of 50 Cent :p

I'm not skeptical, I'm worried Eminem will show the world he's washed up. That's all.
