freestyle advice

Postby DrunkenDeath » Jun 30th, '09, 06:41

So some friends... or at least i call these people friends for some reason, have been tempting me over and over to rap. why? i don't know. but they're wanting to see me freestyle/battle. lol yeah some are talking trash about me for not doing it. and I like, suck at freestyling. So any advice from anyone that could help me for the next time i'm being told to rap? i got the rhyming skills, i just don't know to start, and i'm kinda slow sometimes when trying to come up with a rhyme for something
I'm that dude.

I want to talk shit, but i'll probably get banned for it from now on :sweating:

Chet Starr wrote:best advice if you suck....just write some shit, and memorize it. :y:

Otherwise it takes years and years to be good at freestyling unless your a miracle child lol

yeah, that's what i did, but the guy i rap battled with is complaining i wrote and memorized it and that it doesn't count. of course, at first he was all cool about it, but then later he was complaining

@DerdyPK--

well, i'm not a miracle kid like you lol :zipped:

i actually won against someone today, except it was stuff i had thought of like a week earlier :b:

then someone went against me, and since i have terrible freestyling skills, i automatically lost, except he kinda sucked and only said a few lines

yo you MUST have prewrittin lines i used dem to start da flow wit with then i go n go n go n go n go and anytime i start to slip up i have some more prewrittins that i fall back on until i get goin again another thing i do is when im spittin and im startin to slip it goes like dis

prewritten bar//

prewritten bar//

freestyle until i start to slip up//

laugh//

prewritten bar//

prewritten bar//

freestyle until i start to slip up//

but by now uve showed ur point and can stop or you can repeat

man not many ppl are good at freestyling most ppl that say dam dats a good freestyle cuz it had multis and meta and name and great wordplay well thats cuz dey are prewrittin half da time you see freestyle fridays dey are prewritten... thats why famous rappers dont freestyle on point when they are asked becuz if they slip up at any point everykid in the world will be on utube sayn im better than him i could do that... their are very few tru freestylers eminem is one he doesn't do it much but when he does he never has anything that could sell a mill but he just does a tru freestyle....
i want to write something that you will remember....

Oh and never go like "im the best, im so sick," etc. cause in a battle theres no point in upping yourself. Always take something really fucked up about a person, perhaps family background, and flip it really badly coming out as a dope diss. Do that technique Moe put tehre too, its good.

If you mean live freestyling, you need to, as Chet Star said, jot stuff down in a notebook or something. Jot all hot lines that come into mind, while doing anything. You don't have to be brainstorm; if something fire comes up in your head, write it down.

By a month or two, you'll have a considerably large list (hopefully) of decent rhymes to spit out. Say them in your head with a good flow and memorize the ones you like.

When you actually freestyle battle someone, you need to be very quick with your mind and mouth. Analyze your opponent and find ways to attack them. If he's your friend, that should be even easier as you can throw some "personals" at him, which can sidetrack the opponent and give you the edge.

I'm just giving you the VERY bare details of it, but practice is the most important thing.

Also, listen to a larger variety of hip hop to expand your understanding of the rap games and give you more inspiration to your lyrics.

Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/
The whole and not the half of it; vocab and not the math of it/
Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/
Me and Kweli close like... Bethlehem and Nazareth/
